ERIC GALES! Wow! Funny, I've listened to rock n' roll my whole life. I "thought" I knew what really great guitar playing sounded like. I didn't. Heavy metal hard rock guitar players I thought were great…. now… I'm thinking…. not so great ...when compared to Eric Gales. Now, here I am, an old man, and finally Eric Gales appears and he shows what's it like to really REALLY R E A L L Y play the guitar. Wow, it's soooooo much more beautiful, and heavier that I ever thought possible! Thank you Eric Gales!

@Bryan B My son helped him out with his website way back in 2008, this garnered him a credit on the Transformation liner notes. I'm 66 now and Eric is one of the best git fiddle players I ever heard in all my life. He got his act together, got married and now is working on a new release with Joe Bonamassa.

Me too, I was thinking John Petrucci and Malmsteen have ratcheted the realms of guitar virtuosity until I heard Eric Gales

Thanks for sharing that. Everything a guitar solo should be - passionate, harmonically interesting, rhythmically relevant - and acknowledges there's an audience that's going along with you for the ride.

I saw Eric at a place in Fort Wayne Indiana called C2G ...it was a place that had been a church at one time and they still had services there...and Eric was feeling the spirit that night and took us to church...Eric is one of the greatest players around today...and the most honest and authentic artist anywhere today....love me some Eric Gales....💘💘💘

In between two albums, Gales served 21 months of a three-year sentence for violating the probation he received in 2006 for drug and gun charges. “I was smoking weed on the road and I didn’t want to risk them telling me to come home in the middle of the tour” because of a dirty urine sample, he said in a recent phone interview. “I just said to myself, ‘I’ll deal with it when I get home.’” So he turned himself in after the tour and was sent to prison. (He couldn’t play a guitar for his first six months of incarceration but - because of the intervention of a warden who knew who he was - eventually led a prison band.)Gales was released in March 2010, but “I got arrested again within a month,” he said. “I got caught up on Beale Street, man. I had some cocaine and some Xanax pills on me and wound up going to jail again. ... After that I made a decision that it wasn’t conducive for me to stay any longer in Memphis, Tennessee. ... I knew too many of the wrong people, and too many of the wrong people knew me.”

Matt's pretty good, but not in the same universe as Gales..he really does look smug and peeved that the attention is completely taken away from him and that he's reduced to a bystander.. but once EG is up there, no one gets a look in, and rightly so. The last thing we need is more of the same SRV wannabe licks, Gales is a true one off. Didn't like the fact that Matt started that kind of jokey talking to the guy to his right, trying to act indifferent and unfazed by what EG was doing, but in doing so, rather than making him look cool and nonchalant, he made himself look even more insecure and owned. Talk about reluctant to acknowledge when you are in the presence of greatness. I remember many times bumping into Eric in music shops in Memphis in the late '80's, a rare talent indeed.

Someone is finding god again ? After that, i found him ! So much freedom in his playing ! Awesome ! From 20 years, i'm fan of this guy and Robben Ford an George Benson. I can't tell that i prefer one of them (and many other guitar players) but, i can tell that E.G. leads something special. Robben is a master and plays only when he's got something to tell. GB is from another planet and EG... I don't know. may be UFO or something. (Sorry for my english, i'm french).

@Brian Casper Lagrène ?
@philreg38984 жыл бұрын
@Brian Casper I saw him often in Paris. I like him very much like many other guitar players, Nuno Bettencourt, BB King, Gary Moore, Stevie Ray V., ... But I think that, beetween Hendrix and Van Halen, nobody has changed the instrument. After E. V. Halen, everything was différent. And, Roben Ford, today, shows us something new, simplicity, phrasing, pulse... With him, playing a major scale is wonderful. Amazing. And E.G. is so free, and in harmony with his band, it's always a conversation piece.
