I love how, every time they talk about George and Life of Brian, both Eric and John Cleese both always use the joke about George buying the most expensive cinema ticket ever. XD

Eric Idle your comment on how we take ourselves so dam seriously and why as this life is all temporal. Let's face rich or poor we are all going to die. It's love and relating to one another in a loving and kind manner, George seemed to live his life this way. The insights shared in his lyrics and music seem to indicate this truth. He was a loving and spiritually fit human being.. Loving, absolutely loving... I will always return to his music songs like "This is love" what a pick me up!

George may have been number 3 or 4 in the Beatles, but he won the post Beatle life going away. Imagine being the reason why the greatest comedy ever made got made. And being in the Beatles. What an incredible man.

@@m.c.b.4323 Mate, he was the third to join. and third in terms of written material for the Beatles. Settle down. The point was how much more he blossomed outside the Beatles, more than any of them.

Aw, they seemed like such good friends. They're both incredible men. Whoa, George sold his house to help pay for Life of Brian? What a cool dude he was. This was really sweet and funny. :)

Mortgaged, not sold. He might have had to sell if the movie was a flop, but it was a big hit, so he continued to live in that same house until the day he died.

I’m surprised George Harrison had to mortgage his house for the money. I guess the Beatles wouldn’t become gazillionaires until the 90’s.

The Beatles badly mismanaged their business affairs in the sixties, and Britain had very high tax rates for wealthy people until Thatcher took over in 1979. George wasn't poor, but he had spent most of his money on the "house"--a 120 room mansion that he bought in 1970 and then did a lot of upkeep and remodeling on.

I guess George never even made a slight reference to me, huh? Saw him twice in 1979 and your movies were born. And, Hand Made Films!!! I do not lie. Love your stuff Eric, I wish I was dead too, singing that song, Love it, I do. So, I've seen his intensity, not scary if that's what he's about. Too serious on energy projection, I could've laughed but didn't. It didn't seem he really believed in "What Is Life"(s) meaning. I asked him to write a song with that name. And description too. Sorry, but his energy was not friendly, like something was bothering him maybe. It's a Python Monty world. Lol. G'day mates.

This story seems to vary depending on who's telling it, John Cleese claims the movie cost around 2.5 million to make but the studio would only put up around half the money so George Harrison put up the other half. Now suddenly it's 4 million and entirely financed by George Harrison?

I still can't believe that George Harrison didn't have $4 million just lying around somewhere and had to go to all that trouble.
@keriford54

You'd think so, but during the 1960s they were on a 90% tax rate, also John and Paul got by far the biggest share of the wealth and then after the break up they had to sue each other as their money was frozen, then George had the My Sweet Lord law suit, which lost him a lot of money. In buying George's House "Friar Park" he over extended himself, and his later records didn't sell in the numbers Paul's did and he didn't tour, so it's quite credible that he didn't have the money lying around. Apparently he did the Anthology largely because his film company went bust and he needed the money.
