@@musemuser777 I'm sure he goes the extra mile for his dad... I know I did for mine until he died... He's back in san antonio april 2nd and I've got fron row as usual... Now that I'm doing the Buckethead tribute, I'm HOPING he'll sign my bucket... LOL... I've got Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Guthrie Govan, Marco Minneman, and Bryan Bellar so far... 😁

@@musemuser777 sure click on my profile and I got lots of videos and different shows I've done... I also do lesson requests, unless it's something completely ridiculous... LOL... I call the tribute: Fear the Bucket... And I've even been able to play HIS touring guitar in New York a few months ago... I have a custom guitar built for me that is almost an exact replica of a real one like his, plus i have a new esp baritone modded out already with a killswitch, and i think I have 3 fender stratocasters with killswitches also....😁

I'm just now getting into Eric Johnson as a player. Can anyone tell me why he is covering this? Does he have a strong appreciation for Paul Simon? I just wasn't sure if there was a reason that he wanted to cover this and Kathy's Song.

If there is anything Eric Johnson is not, it is a one-trick pony.
@aturogs19548 жыл бұрын
He was born in 1954, same year I was, and could be he unwillingly(at first) listened to it play on the radio(much like me) in the 60's, at a time hits were played over and over and, and we would be 'brainwashed' to memorizing the melody and folk-guitar playing in our minds. Besides, Eric might have appreciation for a lot of music genres(seemingly obviously).

Probably a nice bloke, and obviously a good player, but this did not have the right feeling to it, and is not a patch on the original...I know he has made it his own, but the way he sings it just doesn't sound right, and all the extra little slides and notes he has added just seem to be there to hide the fact he cannot convey the emotions that this song is supposed to express.
@Sam22music7 жыл бұрын
Why? Why can't a more complex song be emotional? Eric Johnson is a guitar player, and that's what everyone knows him for, not a singer. Why blame him for utilizing what he is unquestionably one of the best at? He's not adding that stuff to "hide the fact he can't express the emotions," he's making the song interesting. Just a guitar strumming is quite boring to me, and I would imagine that's part of the reason he added a lot of embellishments. But people will always think simplicity is better.
@DjNikGnashers7 жыл бұрын
I am not saying more complex songs cannot convey emotion...I don't like his voice at all, it's just a personal thing, although I'm definitely no hater, I haven't given it a dislike/thumbs down...I don't think the song needs all the extra added touches, it just needs to be played with a delicate touch with perfect dynamics...I play guitar a little myself, and play this song, obviously not as good as this talented man, or indeed anywhere near as good as the original, but this is a comment section and I am making my comment on it...I don't like his guitar playing in this instance as much as I like Paul Simon's...Your 'people will always think simplicity is better' comment is very narrow minded sir, it implies anyone who doesn't like the added bits in this must all think the same way, like sheep...We are all different individuals, and think in our own ways, and this comment is purely just my own thoughts, not anyone else's who doesn't like the extra bits in this version.

Terrible poppy rendition of a perfectly balanced piece, this took away the delicacy and in turn ruined the song for me. So much unnecessary showmanship at the sake of the songs heart.
@shitmandood10 жыл бұрын
Well I don't think EJ playing the song note for note and imitating the vocals perfectly would do any justice to it. This is another musicians take on that tune & that is how you add their own artistic qualities to the song. It sounds pretty good to me. I didn't even know EJ did this track. Amazing.
@erikoreland368810 жыл бұрын
I get your point but to use the word "terrible" about it is just moronic. I for one think it is superb. And I'm a huge PS fan!
@MarcWeissMusic10 жыл бұрын
Erik Oreland To claim that my opinion is moronic is in my opinion moronic! See the irony? This song is all about longing and loss, to me the increase in tempo and upbeat vocals totally detract from the simplicity that allows it to otherwise communicate with such honesty.
@TheRockstarnumber110 жыл бұрын
I respect your opinion but at the end of the day it's Eric Johnson who is known for his guitar playing not his singing. If the guitar virtuosity is not there then it's not Eric Johnson and those people are there to see him, not him being someone else. Plus if he loves this song then he has a right to honour it by playing it his own way not copying the original artist. Oh and one more thing, calling EJ poppy is as Erik Oreland put it simply Moronic.
@MarcWeissMusic10 жыл бұрын
TheRockstarnumber1 I didnt call him poppy I said the rendition was poppy. Each to their own.. my subjective opinion is not favorable towards this cover.

No, Peter Smith is right. April Come She Will's studio version is the epitome of a perfect little gem (Artie's vocals and especially Paul's Guitar) and there's IMO just no point in covering it. Kind of like Angie by the Stones, every cover sounds sort of wrong. Especially, Eric Johnson adds 'guitar embellishments' which do nothing else than cut the flow of the music which is based on simplicity. Good voice though.

Oh, dear. This version, whilst indulging Mr. Johnson's desire to practice some of his undoubtedly prodigious talents, fails _absolutely_ in comparison with the simple melancholic beauty of the original, and the restrained but consummate skill and delicacy of its delivery. So, thank you very much, but 'no'.
