@@Jeremy_Sims yes, that is true. Technique is there to be able to play anything that one hears in the moment. It's just sad if it is all technique and no passion. Reminds me of an album that I still have to listen to: Protomatyr - No Passion, All Technique Not sure if related..

@@Nowhy Yes. This is one of my biggest reservations about some drummers lauded as "the best". Flawless and fantastic technique, yet not backed with enough passion, heart and soul. Relatively speaking, its like listening to a drum machine vs a human being. Depending on the genre, one doesn't need to always go ham... just sound and feel brilliantly human.
