Roleplay-wise it makes sense. Picking the Bomb and the mission other Ashlay establish a hardcore professional Shepaprd who always picks the greater good (paragorn) or the mission (renegade) over personal feelings. It makes it also slightly more believable that a disappointed Shep joins Cerberus just like Jacob.

So from a pragmatic point of view I've always thought it made more sense to let Ash die. Though I'm biased because I'm not a huge fan of what they did with her in ME3.

In the scene where Shepard shoots Mordin, the pistol you pull out is the Carnifex. This is the second of the only two times Shepard holds a Carnifex in cutscene during the entire series. The first time? When Mordin gives Shepard that very Carnifex is Mass Effect 2, upon meeting eachother.

It was still a really nice touch on the Dev's parts, one for a cutscene many won't ever choose to watch Though you still got me on the ending, I never paid attention to the pistol at that point cause all of the emotions running lol. Plus the gun switches from a predator to a carnifex throughout the ended sequences, at least it did. They might have fixed that for the Legendary edition tho But Wrex's death never happened, cause to get that you would've ACTUALLY had to kill Mordin. And that never happened. Those who say it did should be launched into the nearest star 🤣

Playing the Mass Effect series is special. Especially that very first time. When you walk away for a year or so and go back, you get that warm feeling of going through it all again. Destroy is the only ending that makes sense for me and my Shepard. We've been building up to it the entire trilogy. The crimes and fall of the reapers and an AI who reached a conclusion and decided to play god - murdering trillions over millions of years. With the control ending you give the Shepard AI the power of god, no single being should have that kind of power for obvious reasons. And with synthesis, you are literally robbing every being in the galaxy their freedoms by changing their DNA forever. Shepard summed it up perfectly in the dialogue choice: "I can't make that decision." Recognizing they don't have the right to make such a decision that will affect every life in the galaxy, as they are just one person.

By the argument of not playing God, your logical choice would actually be Refusal. That way, the Geth and any other synthetics die on their own terms, instead of being callously sacrificed by a hypocritical Shepard who chose to wipe them out, saving only organics.

Destroy is the only ending that makes sense to me. Control doesn't guarantee that Shepard won't go reaper madness themselves one day, synthesis is doing exactly what the reapers wanted and forcing something onto people, whereas destroy gets rid of the threat and allows the future to learn from the past mistakes.

The reapers are too simplistic to want anything; the catalyst just lays out the fact that the cycle doesn't truly end with destruction because organic progenies will eventually reinvent it by creating new synthetic lifeforms (oh, just did that with the sentience I gifted upon the Geth to compliment their not superior enough physical bodies, they can now download knowledge, be creative and live forever, and they will certainly not outcompete the toughest squishies like krogans and Rachi) so it's not a request but an advice from their million year old experience, which I think is worth pondering on. About "forcing something onto people", I just want to say that when have we ever not been a "slave" to the need for change(evolution) when the earth/universe demands it? When have we ever not been a "slave" to daily labor that enables complex societies to function, so we can provide each other with basic needs and amneities?

I've spent over 65+ hours for each of the first two Remastered games. #3 is next just... I feel playing it is closing a chapter I'm not ready to do. So, playing a few other games till I decide to pull the trigger. I played them all originally and playing them all now on insanity mode. Great stuff @blindWave! And happy B-Day. btw, there is a way to save both the Geth and Quarians.... In terms of endings...I always choose Control because you can save the Geth and don't lose any species and you don't have to worry about any future wars if you don't want to. I agree with you, in that I disagree with the Catalyst's argument that it is inevitable that Synthetics will always destroy organics. Shepard brought peace to the Geth/Quarians so it is possible. We had peace with EDI. Otherwise, by that logic we should not be healing the genophage since all the simulations show the Krogan overrunning the galaxy too.

Organic life is infused with technology. Probably some sort of interconnectability and AI stuff. Synthetics received ways to interact with the technology in organics in some way that removed the interest to evolve in a way that requires destruction of organics. Deep understanding of each other.

Default Femshep looks cartoony in MELE. I played as Femshep, tho my own custom version (who honestly is the best custom femshep I've seen), primaily because I love Hale's voice. Whenever I play in a way that forces me to choose between the Geth and Quarians I've never been able to justify choosing the Quarians over the Geth. The Quarians started the war by attempting to eradicate an intelligent species without provocation, and they're the ones who die because they'd rather continue that war than grapple with the fact that _they_ are the reason they lost their home, not the Geth. I hate the idea that this is somehow the worse of the two choices. That line of thinking requires an intelligent synthetic life to somehow automatically be worth less than an intelligent organic life. Same reason I consider Destroy the renegade choice between it and Control, it sacrifices billions of synthetic lives to save organic life, Control sacrifices one organic life to save all life. (synthesis is just garbage that isn't even worth discussing)

Actually, Control was originally the second possible ending. If you didn't have enough war assets/low galactic readiness, only Destroy would be available. The next tier up was perfect Destroy, where Shepard lived. Then Control, then Synthesis at max galactic readiness. That was EA's decision, suggesting Synthesis was the ideal, which people clearly didn't unanimously agree with (present company included). Thus, the extended cut gave access to all possibilities from the get-go.

That would imply the endings are based on morality, when the writers have clarified before that they're not. The red and blue coloring of the Destroy and Control endings aren't meant to represent paragon or renegade. It's just a poorly considered color palette by EA and Bioware in the final production.

Just got done watching this whole playlist over several days. Im surprised nobody put the original unedited ending on the list of stuff to watch. The original ending had the Normandy crash on the paradise planet and the smash cut before the narration went directly to credits. No narration, no epilogue images, nothing. The crucible pulse also fully destroyed the relays in the original ending which we know from the Arrival DLC destroys the entire star system. The original concept was that the galaxy is scoured of life one last time to end the cycle and the Normandy crew crashes on a planet that essentially becomes a new Eden. Based on the planets visible in the sky the Stargazer scene is supposed to take place on the same planet generations later leaving the gap in time up to the player's imagination. It was too bleak for people to accept so they made the extended cut to show the relays were just damaged and not fully destroyed. The original destruction animation was really intense. The new ending only shows the inner ring of the relay being broken.

That had been also my first reaction to MASS EFFECT 1 in late 200 when the game finally became solved from the Online restrictions since back then, as many Europeans, I just had played Offline. And YES, Blind Wave Gaming´s reaction was authentic for the old guard of gamers playing ME around 2007, even if they are hard c0re Science Fiction fans like me. I seriously love it since I can read, also since 1968 but the details and the modification options in the game had been far to much for my taste back then. Other people became irritated by the package cover description because ME 1 never was a SHOOTER but an RPG with Shooter - Elements in it. Brian Mitsoda, the lead Writer and lead Developer of the game back then never had been a friend of the American NRA. That shows in most of his other titles he had worked on also. So many folks thought and still think the use of weapons in that game for a GLITCH ! That had been one of the reasons for the radical changes in MASS EFFECT 2

When I did a playthrough where I sabotaged the cure nearly a full year passed between shooting Mordin and playing the rest of ME3. That Shepard's entire thought process was "no cost too high." If something aided the fight in even the smallest way it was worth doing anything to obtain, and if anything or anyone appeared to even consider hindering the war effort for a fraction of a second, Shepard went full Ender's Game on their ass. That playthrough is easily the most memorable (and painful) gaming experience I've ever had. Nothing else even comes close

I just wanted to be on the record that you were never in a relationship with Ashley at that point lol. That was just the game making it known that a relationship was possible. It was probably done in a clunky way but If you were a female Shepard, Kaiden would have done the exact same thing. Something I'm noticing first hand as I replay Mass effect with my wife as a female Shepard. I suggested the few Ashley videos that were in there just because I really feel you did not get to see her actual character. Mass effect 1 Ashley/Kaiden I just the human companion. The survivor basically becomes "alliance soldier who hates Cerberus so much they no longer trust you.". ME 3 Is where these two characters shine. Kaidens old squad talk and Ashley helping her sister with her husband's death (there is a great memorial wall scene with that one, which I didn't think about including as a suggested video for this until it was too late). I honestly wish I was away to make it so they both survive because So much is missed out in a single playthrough.

Also I saw the Ashley killing wrex thing and that is very hard to accomplish unless you want Ashley to kill wrex. You have to have low charm/intimate points and ignore wrexs family armor mission . You basically have to be asking for wrex to die and either you or Ashley would answer that request. But anybody who pays attention to their crew will resolve that issue peacefully

Advice for a future play through: If you don't want to sacrifice Edi and the Geth but find the idea of AI god Shephard in the Control ending a bit concerning, there's a head-canon solution to that: Control to Destroy. After the events described in the slideshow, with the galaxy now safe, the Shephard AI fearful the power may corrupt him over time, takes the reapers to the centre of the galaxy and flies them into the Sagittarius A super massive black hole leaving organics and synthetics to make their own way going forward.

My biggest issue with the Destroy ending is how its only temporary. The Leviathan and The Catalyst paint the picture of how The Reapers were created to solve the repeating issue of Synthetics vs Organics, but this issue was on track of finally finding the solution to that problem during our cycle, and creating a true peace......and then you blow up Synthetics, and just unsure in this cycle or the next, the problem will happen again. And all it takes is a species to evolve as far as The Leviathans did for The Reapers to be born again, and it repeats. So my issue with Destroy is just how the picture you are given says that you saved the galaxy for potentially billions of years (maybe more or less. Who knows), but eventually the cycle will repeat and wont be saved anymore People hate Synthesis so much, but least in that ending you formed a lasting peace between Organics and Synthetics, and truly saved the galaxy. As opposed to hitting snooze on the clock

All of the endings suck make no sense and defy logic and reason. Some of that is artistic intent, some of it is a mixture of crunch development, incompetence and lack of understanding or care for their own story. At this point arguing over which ending is best is like arguing whether being shot, stabbed or burnt is better. There is no good endings, only bad endings. . . And also synthesis, which is in a whole other league of awful writing.

Control ending is for me the best ending. (Control as a paragon, I think it's a bit darker and the monologue change if you've done a renegade playthough). Synthesis is a good ending by itself but it doesn't allow much for sequels in this universe.

When the other choices are either becoming a kind of intergalactic hive mind police force that watches over all or forcefully rewriting the genetic material of everyone in the galaxy against their will, temporarily destroying all AI becomes a small price to pay.

I like to pretend - since we never actually see EDI or the Geth die on screen - that Starkid was just trying to talk Shepard out of Destroy, and actually the full EMS destroy ending took out the Reapers and *only* the Reapers. That said, EDI's "I am alive, and I am not alone" speech always hits me in the feels. Wish there was a mod that spliced together the best parts of all three: Reapers dead from Destroy, Citadel surviving from Control and the general feel-good factor from Synthesis without everyone turning luminescent green."

Synthetis will always be the best option for me because I always base my choices on logic instead of emotion. Armed with all the knowlege you could have during the end paints the Destroy option in a very bad light.

@@v5k456jh3 Control does not solve the issue that resulted in the creation of The Reapers. This is why Synthesis is logically the best option because the solves the problem for which the Reapers were created in the first place. Also nobody got changed into weird Synthetic robots. The DNA of Organics was changed but nobody is sprouting cybernetic arms or anything. You can even argue that Shepard ( after being brought back to life ) was more Synthetic ( as the Catalyst even mentions ) compared to the end result of Synthesis.

I killed Mordin during both my ME3 playthroughs, sorry not sorry! Renegade Shepard was just a funnier and more impactful way to play the game imo
