Lest we forget, Eric Ripert was not only Anthony's friend, but also sadly the one who discovered Anthony had committed suicide. He found anthony hung in his hotel room. So to not only stay composed knowing his friend died, but with the burden of having been the first to discover it, is truly remarkable. I have such respect and feel so much pain for this man. You are a beautiful human being.

I agree wholeheartedly. Also, to know that Eric was the first person to discover his friend Anthony makes you wonder if Eric tortured himself with hypothetical scenarios of arriving at Bourdain's hotel room a few hours earlier... heart-wrenching.

That reminds me of an episode of Bourdain's show if which he returned to the kitchen, and Ripert became the grill man for a day. At the end of the show, while Ripert performed remarkably well (...Bourdain thought Eric would certainly be overwelmed), I love his response to Bourdains, more or less rhetorical question: "So, what did we learn today?" To which, Ripert immediately responded: "Never do this again!" A classic moment.

For me this was the best episode of Parts Unknown. His trip to Peru with Eric to their cacao fields in the Andes that they invested in. From the shamans ritual, to them both performing the same ceremony on the cacao tree and each other. Their love of food and the appreciation and love that they had for the people of Peru and their cuisine. They were the perfect complement to each other. Some of Anthony’s wise cracks from this episode is priceless. I cannot imagine how hard it was for Eric to find Anthony dead. Prayers for Eric and Anthony’s family. Rest easy now chef.

When he spoke of Tony he really tries his best to hold it together and just remember him through the joys they shared. When you found your friend lifeless in a room, that's not easy to move on from. I loved watching them both. Despite Tony's pranks and jokes, it was so ovbvious how much Tony loved and respected Chef Eric. The Sichuan trip was epic.

Chef Ripert is compassionate, talented, and the real deal. You can see he treats everyone in his restaurants with respect. Fear shows in food and service. From the fish cutter to the cleaners to the chefs, he values everyone. That's a big part of his success. Yes, he's a very gifted chef. But the consistent success of Le Bernadin is a combination of all of this.

Eric Ripert is a divine man. I'm sure he has his moments if you work for him, but the day-to-day with a genius can be very hard to bear. For a few years when I could afford it, I had my birthday dinner at Le B.The food was ineffably beautiful, and the service simple and gracious. You were greeted gently, they expected you and were glad to see you. Some things changed just a bit year by year, while others remained the same. And yes, he greeted me and my guests personally a couple of times, but not every year. Perfection.

Also I have a warning for western chefs who wants to try Asian cooking. Olive oil is great but only in western food. When cook olive oil in Chinese food it will change their texture, because olive oil’s fragrant is too strong. Use sunflower oil or Canola. Thanks for sharing this video.

How convenient!!!! Especially since he was so wonderful that no one would suspect him, Anthony's best friend, of whacking him. Search for "Anthony Bourdain and the CIA" which is a video here. It will give you some ideas on how the CIA works in this industry. Also the book "Finks How the CIA Tricked the World's Best Writers" by Joel Whitney. Which Anthony was also a writer. Then I just started to watch the video for about a minute and looked into Eric's eyes. He looked guilty to me, right away. I read faces. That guy had something to do with it. I would bet money on it.

I love this man, who is able to maintain some humility in spite of his fame and success. And, just from his body language, it is clear that the death of Bourdain really was a loss to Ripert. On the other hand, let's be honest, in that the purpose of a high-end restaurant, and Michelin stars, etc, is to be able to make the most money possible from a food-service operation. Though feeding one's ego, from high ratings, probably comes into play...ultimately, no-one runs a restaurant for fun, or because of high praise alone. Sadly, the same ability to charge as much as Le Bernardin does (up to $400/person, or more, per diner) also deprives 95% of the world's population from every partaking of its offerings. The average couple can't afford to splurge $800-1,000 for dinner!

Many people may not know what a good writer Bourdain was. I've read all of his cooking related books, and they are really entertaining. In his book, "Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook", Bourdain tells the wonderful story of Justo Thomas. A savant at preparing fish for the kitchen and who also happens to be an employee of La Bernadin. Bourdain says, "Let’s put it another way: I graduated from the best culinary school in the country. I spent twenty-eight years as a professional cook and chef. I’ve cleaned and portioned thousands and thousands of fish in my time. The executive chef-partner of Le Bernardin, Eric Ripert, is probably my best friend in the world. And I would never dare to put a knife to a piece of fish at Le Bernardin.". Bourdain's respect is without doubt... Bourdain did not feel worthy to prepare a fish for his best friend.

That was a stand-out, wonderful part of the book, and he devoted an episode in his TV series to this man and his countrymen too. Absolutely wonderful the level of respect given to this talented man, who would otherwise pass by unrecognized but who finished his shift in six hours, though it took two or more top workers on a full shift to replace him if, God forbid, he happened to want to take a day off.

What a facinating man. The pictures of his dishes are stunning, and look like beautiful works of art. I was a fan of Anthony and followed his food journey, which I enjoyed immensely. The chef has a certain dark quality hidden within him. He is certainly a master of what he does.

I haven't even watched the video yet. And when I clicked on it, the first words that were that Eric got an award for being number 1!!! Okay, with so many awesome cooks, Eric made it to number 1???? How convenient!!!! Especially since he was so wonderful that no one would suspect him, Anthony's best friend, of whacking him. Search for "Anthony Bourdain and the CIA" which is a video here. It will give you some ideas on how the CIA works in this industry. Also the book "Finks How the CIA Tricked the World's Best Writers" by Joel Whitney. Which Anthony was also a writer. Then I just started to watch the video for about a minute and looked into Eric's eyes. He looked guilty to me, right away. I read faces. That guy had something to do with it. I would bet money on it.
