If that video wasn't a skit then its super weird that a server/waiter followed a customer and harassed for a tip. Tipping is optional NOT mandatory. The only time tipping is automatically inserted in the fee is when there is a party of a certain amount - that use to be at higher end restaurants. Three years ago I ordered a sandwich at O'Charleys (similar to Subway), and the person who prepared my sandwich got so upset because I didn't leave a tip. He thought I didn't understand the language he spoke. His coworkers had to calm him down, and I was so shocked. So I'm suppose to leave a tip on a $9 sandwich, which is an average of 0.90 cents to $1.80, and your earning full wages. Naw, I'm not your employer. Tipping is a courtesy gesture for those who provide great service or as a token of appreciation - commonly known for waiters/servers, but its present for other occupations. Personally, I stopped leaving tips at fast food type establishments, and places like Smoothie King, or Starbucks etc because the request to leave a tip at different types of businesses every time has gotten out of hand. Next, Target will be asking customers to leave tips for their cashiers 🤦.

And a person should be glad that I'm even coming to their establishment at all because in at least they still get their base pay. It depends on the establishment. Most of the time credit card tips are rolled into a check unless the establishment cashes tips out at the end of the night. Most people would prefer to tip in cash if they have it because tips are taxed when not paid out at the end of the night.

The smoke needs to be for the owners who don't pay their staff and pass it off on customers to pay it. A lot of these servers make way less than minimum wage and there's no guarantee the tips will make up the rest. Just charge an auto gratuity or include it in the price of the food instead of making it a conflict between the customer and staff. Also if you can't afford to tip your server, then you can't afford to eat out at a restaurant. You need to get carry out, hit a drive thru, or cook at home. People want champagne treatment with a beer budget.
