I teach music to special needs kids at a private school in Memphis, TN and this is unfortunately way over our budget, let alone a public schools budget.

A bunch of plastic recorders, whilst a lot cheaper, do not stimulate the mind. Or at least, not nearly as much as even a simple synthesizer can. Budgets are of course a touchy subject, both in private and public institutions. There ought to be less expensive synthesizer alternatives out there though, I'm sure.

I wouldn't really recommend this for schools. Maybe try a Roland Gaia. That was the standard for sound schools for a long time and may still be.

With all due respect, if I have to blindly tweak knobs for like 15 minutes and all i get is some otherworldly none danceable noise, this might not be for me. Erica has great tools but this is way too experimental ( unless experimental is what you need of course).

Mhm.. how is a VCO -> VCF -> VCA architecture experimental, though? People have been making and using them for over 50 years. I mean, if you want something traditional just connect the elements of this synth in order, left to right, and voilà. If you want experimental, I'm sure the nice amount of patch points can help you with that.
