I am so glad I found your channel. I just got my bass about 6 weeks ago and have never played bass before, played drums in high school. I just wanted to learn some riffs to entertain myself, no intension of ever playing public. I am learning some scales and cords by charts. @Carol cjh Wow you rock.. Never to old to learn. Especially if you have the desire for it. I to played drums a lot as a teen into my early 20s an at 31 my dad got me a guitar 4 Christmas. By then I had 2 little girls an not a lot of time. But I had the mind set that I would be able to play the songs that I grew up loving. This was pre KZbin didn't have money for lessons. I would buy guitar world magazines an just cherry pick what I could understand an get to sound like the song. Some stuff would take longer than others. But I'm glad to say that now there's no song I can't figure out with time. There's no substitute for the work. No short cuts..lol I now have a 5 electric Guitars 1 Acoustic a bass. An jam open mick's at a few different locations... the love for the music is what keeps me going..god bless you..would love to have an update on your progress...

Hey man, make sure to learn how to pluck your bass right and all notes on the bass, it may be boring at first but if you want to be in a band and you want to tell the pianist the note your playing, you can’t just say 5th fret. Much luck bro! Make sure not to focus on not just one string don’t be scared to play other strings in a song. you will learn how to space your fingers when playing bass in the future, bass is really a great instrument and very important to music. hello, i'm new to learning bass, may I ask why your finger is far from the fret? in some instance it's almost at the center between two frets. every teaching material I saw says I should have my finger pressing as close to fret as possible to avoid buzz, and I did notice that the further away from fret, the more pressure I need to reduce buzz. but I see you, and some other folks pressing not as close to fret every now and then even when it seems not too hard to press closer to the fret can I ask why is that?

You should keep your fingers as close to the frets as possible to reduce buzz and get a good note. Don't watch experienced players and copy them alot unless they explain what they are doing because once a player has been playing awhile, they fudge on the rules ALL THE TIME! They are good enough to get away with it.

Hi Emily! I am a professional teacher who owns and runs EEMusic Music Creation Learning Center in Greenville South Carolina. I play a bunch of instruments and teach 5 of them in daily classes at my studio. I post KZbin videos based on what I cover with students in my classes. I am totally self-taught. My teaching style was developed based on playing in different bands in my area for over 40 years. When members of a band I was in could not figure out or get some part of a song, I would learn it on their instrument and show it to them. After a while I could play any rhythm instrument in the band. Right now I am learning to play saxophone between teaching the other instruments. I am always working on refinement of my teaching style. Teaching is all I do and I don't plan to do anything else the rest of my days. I just recently turned down an offer to front a band(I sing a little too) that offered me a substantial amount of money to play again, but I turned them down. I love what I do, and it's all I want to do. I am my own boss and I play music all day long. It does not get better than that! Thanks for watching my videos!
