Fascinating! I’m in my early 70’s now. How different golf instruction is now. I grew up using persimmon woods and old McGregor irons. There were no game improvement clubs. Back than, you were taught the toe up toe up concept to hitting your irons. Toe up in the backswing at 90 degrees and toe up on your downswing at 90 degrees. As a young lad I had a horrible slice. The cure was to hit balls with my driver with a closed stance. My swing was to be between a quarter and no more than a half. During the downswing, I was taught to roll my hands over to develop a right to left drive. Same goes with my mid and long irons. I would hit balls most everyday like this for two month. I learned quickly, you had to roll your hands over much sooner than you thought it should be initially. The swing became ingrained and I was able to hit the ball with a half to 3/4 swing further than many with full swings. I can still hit some sweeping hooks if I need to on holes. I struggle slicing or fading. Anyhow it’s so interesting to me to see how instruction has changed. I played well as a young lad with a 7 handicap. Unfortunately age has robbed me of a lot of distance. I still play the back tee’s but now it’s driver, 3-wood to the par 4’s. Used to be driver 7 or 8 iron. No complaints. I’m still able to play the game relatively pain free except for plantar fasciitis. Thank goodness for motor buggies! I really enjoy your instruction tutorials! Very helpful.

I love this video and demonstration of body release. I have been taught be swing coaches to have an arms release but this looks so much more simple and consistent. I will give it a try as soon as the weather cools down. I live in TX and it is something like 107 today.

I used this exact swing yesterday, on some back pins. The shot comes in a little lower, with a longer first bounce. And just like they said… very crisp strike.

I don’t think I’ve ever released the club like your talking about. It has caused so much inconsistency. I feel as though I’m struggling to do it right because I’m learning over too much in my swing. Becoming top heavy and early extension?

Work on the initial takeaway, as Eric has said before. At first parallel club toe should be no worse than straight up, better for slightly down, and don't roll the club open going back
@RJ_S_182
@RJ_S_182 Жыл бұрын
@@BrianH020 i struggle with this,,, i roll the heck out of it and i wonder why i cut the ball to the next fairway, combine that with my way too long back swing and you have a 100 score waiting for you... over when i shorten my swing with the driver, my fade is worse, and this is because i focus on stopping earlier and flare open
@BrianH020
@BrianH020 Жыл бұрын
@@RJ_S_182 when you're practicing, and you can even do this indoors, doesn't even have to be outdoors, focus on that initial movement away from the ball. Let the club come back smooth, and focus on your left hand, the glove logo should be facing down towards the ground. Doesn't have to be extremely so, just enough so that you can't see it from your perspective. Again, Eric has videos here that go into this in great detail. You really need to drill this initial movement over and over. I am by no means an expert, but I can tell you it definitely works for squaring the club. You only have to pay attention to first parallel, that is, the club parallel to the ground on the takeaway for this..

I used to block shots to the right also . It took me a long time to figure out that I wasn't releasing my angles soon enough through the ball. Just because it's considered a "body release" doesn't mean you don't release anything else. You still have to create and release wrist angles but WITHOUT rolling them over each other, with this overall technique.

Figuring out the body release absolutely rescued my ball striking. It nullifies a host of sub-optimal compensations. IMO the actual golf swing starts from optimal P6 pieces in regard to club face, posture, wrist and arm angles, etc. IMO. From there, don't try to roll it over through the ball, just release angles and allow yourself to shift and rotate organically.

I must think openly: if you see golfers from 70s and earlier like Johnny miller they had a huge lateral shift. Was hand release more common? Is it better for amateurs? Now a days body release seems to be de jeur ...taught everywhere. On tour too.

What's weird for me is I have such a body release I never roll my arms over, there's a bunch of lag and my clubface is always open at contact because I haven't turned the arms over yet. Not sure how to fix other than to put more arm in my swing.
@CogornoGolf

Yeah I would say to feel your arms/hands closing face more either sooner or through the ball These 2 I would use: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHS6aoqVoayEqq8&pp=ygUqRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIGNvbnNpc3RlbnRseSBzcXVhcmUgY2x1YiBmYWNl kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJ21q52Lq6iFobc&pp=ygUqRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIGNvbnNpc3RlbnRseSBzcXVhcmUgY2x1YiBmYWNl

This is body release is really for the elite golfers who already have very high arm and clubhead speed The average weekend warrior spins their upper body out too early and their club gets caught behind. They need to use their arms more and body less.
