My Bill Elliot story. My Sis in law was working security at the '18 Kansas playoff race. Chase goes to victory lane. Bill was approaching victory lane on foot and ran into my Sis in law. Instead of name dropping himself, he humbly said "I'm the winner's Daddy." To which she replied "I know who you are, Mr. Elliott." A gentle "Thank you" from Bill and the story was over. I just have always thought that was so cool on his part.

As a native Georgian and as someone who lives in Dawsonville, about 20 mins from the museum, welcome to GA Eric. I hope you enjoyed yourself and glad to see you got to experience the true history that went on in my backyard. NASCAR may have started in Daytona but NASCAR would be nothing without our state and what was contributed from here. GA is NASCAR and no one can dispute that. EDIT: It's funny that David said the same thing b/c I paused the video beforehand to post my comment 😂

Bills first Cup win came at Riverside in 83, the year that Ford introduced the all new Thunderbird, in which Bill would later set speed records that will never be surpassed. The Thunderbird that Bill got his first Cup win at Riverside, is an 82 holdover model, that they had run in previous years, necessitated by a much smaller budget than most other Ford teams, who were all running the new 93 Thunderbirds. #9 X 2 = 2 🏆🏆

All-time top three men in automobile racing in the world and that’s because of his honesty it’s amazing to me after watching every NASCAR race in NASCAR history and many of them on tape, Bill Elliott, Richard petty Ned Jarrett as the top three in NASCAR is full individuals did that for a living in that environment and still had honestyand integrity running out their basket. You are one lucky man Eric and produced one damn fine video made my day.

Back in 95 i was 18 and had just got my last paycheck and told my friend i was going to Dawsonville to try to get on with Bills team (yeah i was naive) Stopped at Bills museum in Dawsonville and was told the shop was in Hickory NC (the McDonald's years) so we headed to Hickory. It was on the same property with an airport. There was steel gate with a keypad so i just pushed some buttons and it opened. Pulled up to the shop next to the haulers and just wallked right in and was blown away. Standing in between two rows of Thunderbirds and Mike Beam comes walking up. Had a good conversation. Didn't get a job, didn't get to meet Bill. But wouldn't trade it for anything. Beam sure looked confused as to why that gate just let us in though 😂

Great video!!! I am a big dirt late model fan and I can remember Doug Kenimer (spelling) and Charlie Hughes winning back to back Eldora World 100 races back in the 1970's. Those Georgia guys were extremely fast and were the class of the field. Also, I noticed that the ever-humble Bill Elliott who was my favorite driver, kind of says well we were lucky to have won that first race. What he neglected to say was that he had been bad fast for quite some time and had I believe eight 2nd place finishes before he finally won that first race. I am older than dirt and I clearly remember thinking that he had FINALLY arrived as a racer. Little could have anyone imagined that the best was yet to come and he would eventually win the championship! Thank you for posting this video!!!
