I think Hamlin and Lajoie both have valid points. However, one equation lost in all of this is the influence of Crew Chiefs. Hamlin was sputtering with Mike Wheeler, he got paired with Chris Gabehart, and had the best season of his career. Truex & Cole Pearn were magic. Adam Stevens has been able to harness Kyle Busch's talent to become the dominant team in the sport. Steve Letarte revived Dale Jr's career. Crew Chiefs are just as responsible for getting the most out of their cars as the drivers, and also have to work with their drivers to get the best out of them

My biggest gripe with Nascar and even big dirt car touring series is that there are teams that load up cars that cannot win races, and they don't expect to; and there are drivers who get in a car to run a race they know they aren't going to win, its pointless.
@joeah99cr214 жыл бұрын
Yeah but what Lajoie and Williams we’re trying to say but couldn’t quite is that : if you’re in 5 star equipment, you’re going to be racing 15-20 people (unless you’re Danica) and the best of them will win. If you’re in Go Fas equipment you’re racing the other 20-25 with no possible chance of winning except extreme fuel mileage, rain delay, or super speedway luck.
@nicholasatwell34984 жыл бұрын
There’s honestly no way to tell. With Jimmie Johnson’s xfinity stats, who would’ve thought he’d win 7 cup championships. Sometimes, it goes as deep as which of the top team you drive for. Joey Logano spent 4 years at JoeGibbs, lagging behind his teammates by a lot. As soon as he moved to Penske, he looked like a different driver, competing for wins weekly and becoming one of the most consistent drivers on the garage. It seems like it’s about finding the right combination.

But if I were to pick a side, I’d go with LaJoie because there is no way anyone is going to win for GoFas Racing

The answer is simple. Bring back the IROC racing series and let's see these drivers compete with the exact same car. There are more variables than what they were talking about as mattering. Its driver talent, crew chief decisions (experience/talent), the car, the pit crew speed, sponsor money, financial access to racing research, development and testing. All of those combine into how a team performs each week. Right now a top team will be bringing in over $20M a year from its major sponsor(s).

As a southerner from Virginia I have to weigh in here, & this will take a while: To my generation, regardless of who we are or what our background/family history is, we see the Confederate Flag as a symbol of the beauty of the southern portion of the United States of *today,* not whatever happened yesteryear. We're not apart of that era. Absolutely no one here wishes to have slavery legal. We believe in unity & equality & peace for each other. How many times has the American flag changed over the years in terms of physical appearance? If a physical flag appearance can chance, why not the meaning of something, like a flag? Another good example of symbolism change is the rainbow. Back when I was younger, the rainbow was a symbol of beauty, happiness, & luck. Today people see the rainbow as a symbol of Gay/Lesbian pride... & that's literally it... You're telling me that if I like rainbows that automatically means I'm a lesbian? No genius. I just like how pretty rainbows are. That's all... But people don't _see_ that perspective today. Same with flags. If NASCAR wishes to ban the Confederate Flag, then conditionalize it. Ban all non-auto racing flags that aren't the current country & state flags. Therefore you get rid of all the issues. If you eliminate one thing for something from decades ago, then you better eliminate all problems, especially of today. If you insist on removing/banning something because of something it hasn't represented in decades, you disrespect the people who don't see it as a symbol of what it doesn't represent to *_them._* On the flip side, if you allow the inclusion of something that is clearly a symbol of hate today, like the belief that *only* a select few people matter (As a tremendous portion of people I've seen see, believe, or say "Black Lives Matter" is as a symbol of either Black Supremacy, anarchy, racism towards anyone who isn't african american, or all 3), then people will see _you_ as a group that represents hate & what you _say_ you've been fighting for is *not* what you were _actually_ fighting for. It's why I take huge issue with those who say "All Lives Matter" is racist but "Black Lives Matter" isn't. No genius. In no logical world is "All Lives Matter" racist. If "All Lives Matter" is racist, that would imply that _literally_ everyone who ever existed is racist, including the people you _say_ you're fighting for, as well as _yourself._ I have always championed that "All Lives Matter". That _includes_ african americans, native americans, caucasians, legal immigrants, people visiting from other countries, people who live in the North, people who live in the South, people who live in the East, people who live in the West, & all of that sort; Not *just* one particular group of people... If you alienate a group of people because of something they don't believe in (Like us southerners not believing in slavery), yet you champion something most people today are seeing as a symbol of hate (As many people are seeing "Black Lives Matter" as, especially with the riots & murders in the name of that campaign/movement, even against *other* african americans they _say_ they're fighting for), then that alienation turns to hatred because you promote hatred against them, & what you _say_ you're trying to prevent is the *exact* thing you cause, & then people will go from _"All_ Lives Matter" to *"No* Lives Matter". ... & tragically I'll admit my rage towards this entire thing is starting to make me think that "No Lives Matter" is closest to my truth & ideal today. I'm trying to resist fully believing that because people like me still want to believe in a peaceful future for everyone & not just a select few. In addition the people who _are_ different from me who I associate with, including african americans, are still friendly towards me & see me as an equal who appreciates everyone, as I see that from them... Everyone else outside of them however, I don't know if they're friend or foe anymore. Do they see me as an equal who will want to associate & be friends with them, or do they automatically see me as some stupid "racial supremacist" who deserves to be destroyed or enslaved by them *_just_* because I'm caucasian? That's the sad part of today's world: Who is friend & who is foe? Who can you trust? Are we to the point overall where we trust absolutely no one?... Are we to the point where *"No* Lives Matter?"
@frankhite87694 жыл бұрын
If a mere flag makes you uncomfortable you probably shouldn't go to any race you could possibly see someone get hurt or die which is 1000000x worse than being offended by some of the southern heritage of the sport. This only divides the fans and further alienates the fans that made nascar huge in the first place. I've gone to many nascar races and every time I've seen a person of color there they are having a great time. I've shared some beers with many of them and NOBODY was giving them a hard time and if they did I'd be the first to defend them. What an awful idea when I thought nascar was on an upswing!
@Lashazior4 жыл бұрын
Southern heritage is a fancy way of saying traitors to the United States and thinking slavery was a moral thing. If people want to support a flag of losers, more power to them, but NASCAR shouldn't encourage the flag being shown if they want the sport to grow. You can't rely on the good ole boys for the next 50 years.

It’s nice to see fans back on the racetrack for the upcoming NASCAR races such as Homestead Miami Speedway and Talladega Super Speedway! BTW, that conversation between Denny Hamlin and Corey Lajoie is pretty interesting and hilarious at the same time, I don’t know why they had to have a conversation like this, it’s kinda weird. I find it funny that Corey Lajoie went to Wikipedia to find Denny Hamlin’s full name, and he called him James Alan Dennis, that was pretty funny in my opinion. Also, putting Denny Hamlin in the 32 car and Corey Lajoie in the 11 car isn’t such a good idea at all, Denny Hamlin is doesn’t fit with the 32 car while Corey Lajoie doesn’t fit with the 11 car either at all. We are used to seeing them in their respective cars that they’ve had this year or before. I don’t know what’s going to happen if they did this idea but I don’t think they should both do that’s, it’s a stupid idea in my opinion. And yes, putting a championship driver in a small team car will not be good because it’s the car that’s the problem and not the driver itself. But overall, this was an interesting conversation between Corey Lajoie and Denny Hamlin along with Josh Williams and Brad Keselowski tagging along. Hopefully everything goes good for Martinsville tomorrow! 🏎🏁

Nascar is a product. If you want to have more watchers than improve the the product. If you want more sponsor money, than take away the flag. If you want a particular flag out of the sport, you must take them all away, otherwise you're no different. Change starts from within.

This is a great debate to have. I personally believe Kurt Busch is the best driver in the sport. The reason I say that is because look at what he did in the 51 and 78. He nearly won in the 51 at Sonoma and also took the 78 into the chase when it was nowhere near chase worthy. Then in 2015 when he performed with the best cars out there and even with missing part of the season, won some races but got screwed by the weather in the chase and got knocked out. Then the 1 car. That car has been garbage forever. Then when he gets in it, he wins and is in contention every week. Just crazy! Plus he is over 40!

I would argue it is 50% driver and 50% car. The driver makes a big difference, but can’t make a top 30 car run top 10 but they can make it run top 20. Interesting topic though. Some drivers are better than others that don’t have as good equipment, but in Cup I don’t think it is a big deal. However, in Xfinity and Trucks I think it makes a lot bigger difference. You could hardly call the teams that ran Kulwicki and Truex as top tier high dollar teams. Yet each produced a Champion. But LaJoie also has a point. How well will Busch, Harvick, Logano, etc do race to race with a 15-17 second pit crew? Engines that may not even last an entire race? Limited tires? Old cars bought from the top dollar teams because their was something in the initial construction that made the car act squirrelly at speed? Your Dega backup car is your Martinsville primary car...so you better not crash in practice. You cant aafford wind tunnels and supercomputers so you trying to shave tenths of seconds while the big guys are dealing with thousandths. Money does count too. You can put a really good driver in an OK car and he will have good days (Matty D). You can put and OK driver in great equipment and they will also have good days (the Dillon bros). The magic comes when you can match up that great driver with great equipment. Then you get Chase runs and Trophies. Matty D has shown he should get a shot at great equipment. Corey LaJoie has not.

Blatantly obvious in the truck and some xfinity series teams..... there are trucks rolling out with crate motors and guesswork on suspension that struggle to even make qualifying pace while others with Ilmor motors and Penske/QA1 suspensions will easily make the cut. A Thorsport or KBM truck will easily run over a second faster than a lower funded team. In Xfinity, god bless the man because he does so much for the sport, we see teams like Mike Harmon’s who have the pace to get in but the leaders will have his cars lapped by lap 10-12. Drop down to the late model series and it’s even more prevalent. A family garage car VS a snowball derby team is almost laughable. Some families do get the funding and show up to compete with the big touring teams, and those are the ones I follow. At the cup level, it’s not as prevalent, but it certainly exists. The wind tunnel time and engineering that the top 20 regulars have will never be matched by a back marker, lower funded team.

We all know what Brad has done in that number 2. Also I'm probably the only person who laughed uncontrollably when Eric said "Brad Keselowski has entered the thread" 😂😂😂.

I think it would be appropriate if NONE of the invited military people showed up at homestead due to the stupid decision about kneeling... confederate flag maybe ok?? but disrespect to the US flag.. smh

It would be funny if LaJoie wins at Talladega.

Would be funny if he wins Martinsville due to rain shortening the race and he stayed out while everyone else pits and Hamlin is second

F1 is all about the money most would say, but it's not completely true. Hass has spent a ton of money in F1 and isn't anywhere near winning, or even getting on the podium in F1. He spends a good amount in NASCAR and has championships and plenty of wins. Why? It's his partnership with Tony,the drivers, the crew chiefs,etc, and the talent they bring to SHR. Money is very important in racing, but so is attitude and talent.

wasen't it in 2018 all 4 of the SHR cars made the playoffs??

If it's any consolation, NASCAR will continue to recognize confederate heritage by waving the white flag before the last lap of every race.

Who is coming back to the comment section after watching LaJoie pass Hamlin at Martinsville?

Team Brad because I love math and math is a important part of nascar so it is cool to see the drivers add math to the conversation.

I don't have much faith in Corey LaNoJoy considering how many ridiculous wrecks and spins he had his first couple years. He seems better now but has not shown anything to attract an owner to put him in a good car. Great drivers manage to find a way to get some good runs out of mediocre equipment.
