I mean, the thing that makes the DPRK so fascinating (and also terrifying) is that it's literally the closest real world equivalent to something like 1984, Fahrenheit 451, or A Brave New World. Like, people can shit on their own governments and government surveillance in "the free world" all they want, but literally nothing comes close to this. On top of that, their whole recent tourism efforts are so dedicated to maintaining the illusion they desperately want the world to believe despite all of the cracks in the facade being obvious and almost nobody buying it. Like, these are some of the nicest living quarters in their entire country... and they look like 2 1/2 star hotel from the 70s. THINK ABOUT THAT!

NotSoFancyGames Well, here, think about this. There are several hundreds of countries, there are some that are completely first world, with virtually no government and no technology. Then there are first world countries that have an ok government, and they have some medium cities, and the rest is filled with disease and poverty, and perhaps some human rights issues. Then there are developing countries. These are the ones that have a nuclear program equivalent to the US in the 60s. Their computing technology is about 5-10 years behind most first world countries. They have some really nice cities, but still lots of poverty. This is where NK is.

It is illegal to take any thing out of NK as well as to bring anything
@jesussilva2012 жыл бұрын
Yes. It's possible to bring home some souvenirs for NK. But not all shop are allowed to tourist. Just some of them. I watched a video of Mexican blogger and he bought some souvenirs there

It's allowed, I watch videos of an Indian KZbinr who went there. He brought back postcards, beer and posters.

Ha-ha-ha-ha! That last part was hysterical! That would definitely make me feel like home. :) Not the best part of home, but I haven't had to deal with that kind of thing anywhere else. :)

Have you ever tried plugging in any of the hotel fridges? I would assume they are unplugged to save power, pretty much like most of the hotel premises...

The TV is probably filming him...

For those that have epilepsy, I strongly recommend skipping 8:39 to 9:55. To keep it short and sweet, there is only one state-ran channel that provides propaganda at the time he recorded the video.

False, there are at least 4 channels in NK and lots of radio stations.

Usually in the hotels that you stay at you can go to most places in said hotel. Except outside.

Last time I stayed at this hotel the barman spoke excellent English and was very friendly

You could taste the sarcasm in the narration. It’s also a clever way to describe things in a place filled with surveillance.
@rubicunduseratiudas12643 жыл бұрын
Surveillance? Really? I think you're joking. The US and the UK have more surveillance on their own citizens in hotel rooms, on streets and on your cell phone than Kim Jong un could even dream of.

Chances are, if you light one candle, it would be brighter than the entire hotel with all its lights on.

What are their laws on alcohol? I can see myself visiting, getting bored and ending up drunk in the hotel lobby. Would surely end up in trouble.
