The trucks on the coal cars look like a mix of arch bar friction journal bearing and modern roller bearing trucks...
@JacksonSubNScaleModelRailroad Жыл бұрын
And after watching it run, I get so irritated with how companies do this. Is there a way to turn off the alternating ditch lights? BNSF doesn't have that. And holy crap that EOT is massive. Then again, so are the couplers. for almost a thousand dollars, I expect a lot more than what I see here. Then again, I run ScaleTrains HO and N, so my expectations are set super high...

Every time I watch your videos it makes me want to switch to O scale, then I see the prices and remember why I’m in HO scale. I did order a Lionel Strasburg 89 and am now looking to get a TMCC control system as I definitely can’t afford Legacy and honestly won’t run it enough to warrant Legacy. Keep the videos coming Eric and keep on rolling!

@@Ericstrains while I did think of that, I like holding an actual throttle. I also love taking videos of my models. For the time being I’ll use TMCC but might get the base 3 in the future and use my phone with that. I love the concept of controlling the engine directly with my phone but I love the good ol throttle. That reminds me I want to try the Soundtraxx Blunami decoder in one of my HO engines. Sorry for the essay. :)

Nice unit and excellent video. I've had the opportunity to operate these on coal trains coming out of the west going to the power plants in Michigan. This is a good representation. The only thing that Lionel doesn't get right is the ditch lights. The western roads ditch lights don't flash. They are on continuous with the headlights on bright and sometimes also on the medium setting, only. Either way, it is a nice looking engine.

I don’t have a bunch of trains, but I have this one. The engine has never failed me. It’s a nice set for sure! The fixed pilots might not be prototypical, but it will let you run on in smaller diameter tracks. I have even run on 031. Kinematic couplers tend to pull my lighter cars right off of the tracks as the springs pull tight. This is on 054 curves, so I’m not sure if I am looking forward to losing fixed couplers yet.

I’d like to know what the reason behind the cab light turning off while the locomotive is in motion is. I’d assume it’s some sort of real railroad operation that I’m unfamiliar with.
@Ericstrains Жыл бұрын
It's more prototypical. Typically when locomotives are running (especially at night) the interior cab lights are off and only the interior gauges are lit...most likely for increased safety. It's the same in your own car. You typically don't drive around at night with the interior dome light on in your car because it makes it harder to see what's going on outside. Same thing on a locomotive.

If you want to add some weight to the coal gons, add it to the coal loads. The life size of these cars are made of aluminum. So they are lighter than their steel predecessors.

Interesting that it shipped from China. Based on my research most of Lionel's products were made in China and Korea from 2001 to 2020. As of 2021 they've moved manufacturing to Vietnam. The exception being Lionel's Lionscale line, which is made in Concord, North Carolina. This according to The Diecast Model. Maybe the moving of manufacturing to Vietnam is still not complete, or perhaps announced and cancelled.
