Very helpful. Thanks. 😃Quick note: At 4:04 you mention “the ear side of your shackles”, but you never cover that item in the previous part of the video. Luckily I watched the whole thing before shopping. I was making a materials list as you spoke and at 4:04 I realized you had skipped from the wire rope thimbles to the wire rope clips and never covered the shackle and shackle pin before that moment. Just an FYI….Thanks again for the great video!! PS, I’m stringing wire cable to hold curtains for a high school drama program and this was very helpful. 🎭

This was so amazingly useful. I've felt entirely lost on a home project and this explained it so well. Thank you!!!

This one brought back memories of hanging clothesline with dad. And having naked wire jab into my finger.

How would you add a pulley for a rope in a cable line like you did?

How do you know how much to tighten if your using to hang something above a roof...with wind and weight of item and length of cable
@courtneyhedrick4778 Жыл бұрын
Could you use this to hang fabric? For example to divide a 20' room - or would it sag in the center? THANK YOU!
@E-rigging Жыл бұрын
Yes you can! You are also right about the sag, you do not want to overload your cable assembly. This includes the weight of the actual cable. At 20' you can start to see sag if you do not take out enough tension when installing the cable. Make sure to get strong enough cable and a long enough turnbuckle. Just some extra words of advice for people using this style of cable clamps. Two clamps is more than enough to hold even 10:1 safety ratio as long as the cable is strong enough. A lot of the time, there are three wire saddles added to help with hand tensioning the cable. I Am an Ironworker, JIW, local 86. This is the means for perimeter safety for most of our working floors. Never saddle a dead horse. The way you have the wire saddles are perfect here. We have cable tighteners, aka pork chops, Just two cable grabbers & a hand cranked wire pulley to get the final strength. Eliminating the need for a turnbuckle I've done many other things with these steel cables too. From prep/safety to finished reveal... SO . Much. Tapping. Hate lazy painters. This is also how we plumb up our columns too. One piece of advice. if you're gonna end up splicing two cables to make a length. Then you will need at least 3 wire saddles, with at least one pair going in the opposite direction, aka saddling a no longer dead horse Also, when tightening the nuts on your saddles, don't go hog wild on one side, just back n forth, switching sides evenly, and you'll never damage the cable to a point that reduces its structural integrity

So I'm hanging something that is 36 in long and about36 in high but is a round bar sillouettw....cable is about 25 feet but I'm using 4 wires evenly spaced on item so 4 25 foot cables...it's 3/16 I believe I'm using 3/8 x6" eye bolts fasten to aluminum upright I gets that's attached to gutters going 10 feet high so do I need a cable tensioner or can I just pull tight by hand to support wind and weight or if I need one how should I tighten according to weight length and wind pressure

What size shackle is that?
@E-rigging25 күн бұрын
In this video, we used a 5/16" Hot Dipped Galvanized Anchor Shackle. However selecting the correct size anchor shackle will be different for every project. You can find links to all the components we used in the description. This is the link to the shackle we used. bit.ly/3LShXeH

Thanks! I know this video is a year old but do you have any suggestions for a method to connect a similar system to a galvanized steel pipe frame greenhouse?
@steveanimatrix38875 ай бұрын
1:42 Same thing he described - use regular eye bolts instead of the lag eye bolt and drill holes in your pipe to run the bolt through with washer and nut

For a longer fence line, should a turnbuckle be installed either end of the line, or it this arrangement ok?
@E-rigging2 жыл бұрын
Good question! For longer lengths of cable, you'll just need a turnbuckle with longer take-up length. You don't necessarily need turnbuckles at either end, in most cases. Thanks for the comment, Tom!

how do you attach the other end of a 100' cable, by hand?
@holg3070 Жыл бұрын
I’m not ok with all that Hardware. There is a potential to get scratched. A rope system for raspberries. And reaching in I would definitely scratch myself on the hardware. So my question is, is there a cleaner way to make this cable set up? More seamless?
@E-rigging Жыл бұрын
Great question! If you're looking for something more minimal, you can retrofit cable railing to trellis your raspberries. Head over to our HAAS Cable Railing channel to learn more kzbin.info/door/-vciN54UcfKl-i_Cf8Oz7g . Hope this helps!
