Always loved the Harry Nilsson version, and thought he was underrated. My favorite version is probably Ann Wilson’s/Heart’s version. This was certainly a powerful version. I felt it for sure.

Just FYI guys, Harry Nilsson’s version was a cover. The original artist was the British group Badfinger. They released the song in 1970. Nilsson covered it the following year

Exactly!... However, Badfinger never had a hit, until Harry Nilsson had a hit, two years later in 1972. By the way!... Harry Nilsson is a Swedish descendant, hence his Swedish-sounding first and last name.

I'm a fan of both Tommy and Erik. Tommy's range and vocal style in my opinion is better suited for the power metal/neoclassical style where he's basically king at this point. Erik though has gone through a refining of his voice where his grit, accent and dictation has improved and sounds more American now which I think being in Skid Row helped make that happen. Overall, I think Erik is a more versatile singer and more palatable across more genres of music than Tommy. Tommy's great but I think Erik rules the roost. Also, the mic he's using is a studio recording mic that is usually placed in a hanging down position above the head of the singer or group of singers on a boom-type stand at eye-level to avoid kicking it or hitting because they are so sensitive to the slightest sound.
