This is an old Belle Epoque song. It is a cabaret song, not an operatic aria. Please tone it down and make it sing on its own terms.

gahd218 I would have given the second flute part to a clarinet. And the flute to an oboe. And double the cello with a contrabass or bassoon to enhance the waltz feel.

These are indeed not "baroque instruments". "Period instruments" doesn't necessarily mean "baroque". It refers to the instruments and the technique used at the time of the composition of the work. There are recordings of Debussy, Ravel and Stravinsky on period instruments and they are definitely not baroque instruments!!!

@@victormajois2629 My bad! These are indeed baroque instruments! The ensemble Caprice is specialized in the baroque repertory. I guess I was too quick on the keyboard! I think this performance was meant as a musical wink because Satie isn't from that era at all. Kinda like those performances of Beatles music on the harpsichord... Music is music after all... On the other hand, there are performances of Satie, Debussy, Ravel et al on "period instruments" that don't look like "baroque instruments".
