Erik Satie Messe des Pauvres for organ

The Messe des Pauvres (Mass of the Poor) is Satie's only known liturgical work, originally scored for organ and mixed voices (only present in the first movement). This recording uses the arrangement for solo organ by Bryan Hesford. Only rarely performed, this rather enigmatic work is by turns lyrical, assertive, austere and rather moving, and is certainly worth an occasional airing. Performed by Alastair White and recorded on the Allen ADC 5300 organ at Eynsham Parish Church, Oxfordshire, on 31st January 2025.
