I love these trio performances - a great addition to the TS repertoire. It is so good to hear Shaye’s skills as a pianist while Erika and Craig are on top form. Thank you Raoul for recording them and thank you Tuba Skinny for the immeasurable delight you bring into our lives.

I’m a Brit but I was lucky enough to have had a music teacher at school who was a big jazz and ragtime fan. Your comment took me back to 1971 and being an eleven year old listening to how Jelly Roll Morton claimed to have invented a Jazz and then 'Hector' (music teacher, nicknamed after a dog on tv) played "Wolverine Blues” for us. Thank you for taking me back to that lesson nearly 50 years ago, a wonderful memory of a great teacher, though I probably didn’t realise it at the time. Unfortunately my music teacher didn’t teach me to master any instrument, only ever managing rudimentary cornet and guitar, but he instilled in me a love of good music.

Many thanks for filming, Randy. The structure of this fine song, composed by Erika herself in 2009, has always puzzled me. On the reedless 'Six Feet Down' album, they played it in G, in a very spirited performance, slightly quicker than this. Now they are playing it in F - fair enough, as Erika's voice has matured. It seems to consist of 32 bars like many songs, but then to add an 'optional' 16 more. On the original, Erika sang those 16 bars only once. On this latest performance, she again sings them only the first time round (from 52 seconds 'For the stars still shine...' where the harmony seems to drop to Bb minor). After that, having worked through the 32 bars, Craig seems puzzled at 1 minutes 51 about whether he and Shaye are meant to play the other 16 or not; but Shaye DOES play them. Then, when Erika picks up the vocal again (from 2 minutes 09 secs), she sings the principal 32 bars but omits the 16, leaving the other two to play not those 16 but rather the final 16 of the 32 again to round things off. My head hurts!

I just soaked in the terrific music. Craig's skill at 'decorating' Erika's vocal, and briefly Shaye's playing (even if it was a brief miscue), is quite lovely and brings out a fuller musicality - which I suspect was Shaye's cleverness again. I do like this trio format very much and it seems like they're enjoying it themselves.
