Hungarian coloratura soprano Erika Miklósa singing the famous Queen of the Night aria Der Hölle Rache Kocht In Meinem Herzen from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera Die Zauberflöte (K 620). This video is taken from a 07.09.2003. performance in Bochum which was conduced by Marc Minkowski. You can sence his style in the playing of the orchestra, although, considering the fact that this is Minko at work, I expected the whole thing to be at least a bit faster...

Pamina = my friend/sibling The Queen = me. The knife = 1) the answer booklet we 'borrowed' from the teacher, 2) candy from the supermarket, 3) the hardest part of the group assignment, 4) the package of cookies we stole from our parents, 5) the invalid train ticket, 6) etc.

Does anyone else get chills around 2:03 when she just grits her teeth and smiles while continuing to sing? I've seen a few of her performances of this now and it seems to be one of her favorite things to do. It's so deranged and it just makes me feel so afraid for my own life, it's so cool! It really captures the mood of the aria.

Erika Miklosa was a pentathlete as a teenager and sang a lot. When she was heard by a person that told her she should study opera. She has the power and control needed for this most difficult part is superb. The greatest Queen of the Night I've heard.
@biristhebiris
@biristhebiris 5 жыл бұрын
I really don't get the hate this production gets. I accept that it's personal taste and all but to me it's all very well done. Minkowski's conducting fits, Miklosa's characterization, technique and acting is top level and the set design collaborates with the storyline of the aria. Pamina is simply helpless, swinging without direction, has no say whatsoever in this whole shabang her mother puts her through under the strict authority. I say it's a great visual representation and a much more than adequate modernization put together , which I find extremely rare in contemporary efforts to modernize an opera.

This is hands down my favorite performance of this aria I have seen anywhere. She is head and shoulders above everyone else I've seen. No one else lands the "crazy", they sound too pretty and delicate. The speed she takes it at makes it clear those repeated Cs and As are her laughing/cackling. Not just some random incongruous coloratura that makes no sense when you consider what she is singing about in this scene.

@Kasia Exactly. Plus, those not familiar with opera who look at this will watch with already formed negative ideas about opera, see this, and walk away with their negative perceptions confirmed. To them opera is an art for elites only. So these productions are not only disgusting for those who already like opera, but for newcomers too. These productions have the ability to kill opera. I wish directors would stop with the Regietheater garbage.

Many awful opera productions these days. No one writes great operas anymore, the last great one was written/performed in 1900 - Tosca. I’m so confused! The singing is amazing, and the Queen is all at the same time, psychotic, terrifying and strangely attractive. My favorite performance of QOTN

Bravo bravissimo!!!! This piece is everything. Costumes. Atmosphere. Voice and music. Contemporary clinical taste.

Amadeus meets Frank N. Furter. The performance was outstanding, and even the weird staging couldn't distract from it. Not only a great voice and performance, but the makeup and costume rocked! Delightfuil!

I love this video not just because of the great music but because of the facial expressions of Erika Miklosa. I always see the divas standing there ina red dress (I don't know why) singing this piece like it was some kind of singing exercise. I love the fact that i can see the pure twisted evil that lies within her and is seeking revenge. BIG thumbs up.

This extremely awesome performance proves that evil itself has its own beauty and magic which one may hate but in the mean time eventually admire..Her ethereal talent's really captivated me.

Красивый голос, много энергии, технически "подкована" хорошо, немного форсирует в верхнем регистре, но в целом большая молодец!!!❤

Agreed. Too often there's a bit too much bashing going on around KZbin for no apparent reason. If you don't like something - just go watch something that you do enjoy and leave the rest to enjoy their stuff in peace. But no, sometimes people have this unstoppable urge to troll. I dunno. Makes no sense to me but that's how it is.

@Kasia True but there is still a difference between freedom of speech and open hate, the latter which is becoming more fashionable by the minute.

She's one manic queen. xD I love how some singers intrpret this role. I hate when they ust tand and smile instead of doing something with it.

Согласен с вами. Эрика максимально точно передала состояние своей героини оперы, так как задумывал Моцарт. Колоратура - это истерический смех Королевы ночи, а не просто вокальные упражнения, как у большинства, не понимающих характер персонажа.

Princess Aurora Possibly, or Buzzlightyear at the opera. Either way, me thinks someone decided to mix the sauces. Wouldn't doubt if good old fashion cheap absynthe was involved to get hallucinations going.
