Hey Erik, I’ve got a question! If you were to put together a starting lineup of non-US players, who would you choose? Watching the olympics helped me discover a lot of players that I liked, so I was wondering who you like as players?
@User-pn4zz3 жыл бұрын
I know I am not Erik but I thought I might aswell share my opinion, maybe it helps. - Id say I have a fairly good idea of Provolley So without USA Players: S: Luciano Decco (Argentina) Opp: Maxhim Mikhaylov (Russia) OH1: Wilfredo Leon (Poland) OH2: Earving Ngapeth (France) M1: Ivan Iakovlev (Russia) M2: Robertlandy Simon ((Cuba)/Lube) L: Jenia Grebenikov (France) - I actually think the Olympic dream team is pretty accurate/near perfekt, it just missed 2 superstar players who didn’t get far enough at the Olympics to make the official Team. Robertlandy Simon (he doesn’t play National Team tournament) and Wilfredo Leon (his Team lost early on) Setter is super hard to choose from thought, aside of Christenson there are a few setters who are all on a basically on the same level with different strength / weaknesses DeCecco (Arg), Bruno (Bra), Gianelli (Ita), and Toniutti (Fra), Saied Marouf (Iran) -Christenson is great in Blocking/Serving/ Hitting 2nd balls etc -Gianlli is similar to Christenson (Tall and Athletic) -DeCecco is best with Middles -Marouf is best for crazy/miracle plays, -Toniutti is best to always be in system even from bad reception/defense, if you only look at setting he is probably by far the best, hes just super small (6 foot/180cm) so you loose a lot with blocking - Bruno is just all around/the definition of a setter ,
@brianford72993 жыл бұрын
@@User-pn4zz it’s scary how much i agree with your lineup, although it’s very close between dececco and bruno. dececco was definitely the better player this olympics though
@User-pn4zz3 жыл бұрын
@@brianford7299 agreed, Setter is the hardest position to objectively look at, so I usually look at the success of the team. So at the Olympics Bronze medal match, Argentina played vs Brasil. Brasil is the way stronger team but somehow lost. Usually when these kinds of wins happen its because of the setter. So DeCecco outplaying Bruno to carry Argentina for the win. Thats why right now I would have DeCecco Nr 1
@David-kp5du3 жыл бұрын
I would put Nimir in.This season at Trentino he was amazing. Better scorer and server than Mikhaylov. Good defender and blocker too. Only other choice Im iffy about is Ngapeth. Had great Olympics but was pretty inconsistent at Kazan. But great list
@User-pn4zz3 жыл бұрын
@@David-kp5du On Ngapeth, yeah he played pretty bad for most part, but had an amazing Final game. + the reason he was bad was due to problems with Russia in general + the Team and coach, so I expect he will be a lot better back in Modena with a lot of his old team there - (the same team where he had one of his best seasons, especially since he is back with Bruno now). So he will look a lot better I think. Nimir is great to and depends on the Team, if you need an Opposite to score 50% of the points Nimir is better. But when you already have Leon and these 2 Middles you don’t need a flashy Opposite, so there I would prefer someone who is extremely experienced, and Mikhaylov has been playing on a extremely high level the whole decade, and is just more experienced than Nimir. But if you would take Nimir over Mikhaylov that makes sense to, just depends how you want your team to be built up

Well tbh I was expecting a lot from USA but winning isn't always the thing that you need to receive from a tournament,sometimes just the memories and the feeling that you get from that tournament value way more than winning but...(winning is important too,so you are capable of way more,for me just communicate more with each-other during the game and you'll find the way to win cuz team work makes the dream work) anyways I'm really happy that you came back and I wish you all the best in your new experience in Poland! Hi Erik! I've got a question! Micah, during one of his interviews, said that when he was invited to play for the national team, the veterans on the team were terrifying, and would eat you up every chance they get. My question is, now that you guys are the veterans on the team, do you think this practice is still being done? Is it a culture in the team, or is it really dependent on who the veterans are?

I think the other factor why USA did not make it past the pool phase was because the middles were not working defensively and sparsely used offensively. Looking at the other teams, their middles are bigger, faster, and contributes significantly to their teams' offense.. Hopefully, US could develop new middles for future tournaments.. Tbh, only Max Holt should stay for that position in the US line-up.

@@travisbrown9936 if he underperformed, then what do you call the performance of smith and stahl? @nathanvu70943 жыл бұрын
@Kas 007 I definitely think you should take the rest because as your training your obviously getting stronger but at the same time, your body is still adapting to the changes. So during those periods of breaks it would be best to rest, recover and re-supply with nutrients. The main point of my perspective is: training is as just important as resting...

@@ErikShojivolleyball I have to reply because I needed to say this. Maybe USA did poorly because its karma. I'm sorry. But i didn't like what you did to the womens Serbian libero. You played pro in Europe and you know that the gestures perceived racism in America does not have the same meaning or intent in Europe. If you are going to police everyone then call out the people in the Russian league you played before. During your upcoming stint in the Polish league, call out the people you deemed racist. You added fuel to the misunderstanding and people even bombarded the players that defended that libero. You are playing pro and you have the most understanding in the volleyball world and yet you were the one that cause psychological harm on someone because you assumed he was being racist. Racism is prejudice towards another race. Is that what happened in this situation? Good luck when you do play a game in Serbian soil. Make sure to protect yourself.

As a fan of USA volleyball team, I think that the coach needs to develop new players. The bench is really important. Look at the women’s team, Thompson got injured, but Drews is doing a great great job. Nobody has anticipated that. In your team, the opposite should have more reliable players who can have strong and powerful attack; the outside hitters should have good passing skills( which all of you should worked on) and also strong attacks. Matt Anderson cannot be the only reliable opposite in Paris 2024, if you guys want to medal. In Paris, You will definitely be the only Libro and Micah will definitely be the setter, but more setters should be developing, in case anything happens. The men’s volleyball is really really competitive, at least more competitive in this olympics compared with women’s. There are lots of things your team needs to improve on, if you want to step on the podium. It is only three years away, and hope everything goes well for Team USA❤️❤️❤️
