Yes, you have listed several films that used lenses with this focal length. However, many Hollywood movies were shot with a camera that has a super 35 sensor, which means that they had to use a lens with a different focal length to get a similar look. I want to say that this is an excellent lens, but the look of a Hollywood movies can be achieved with other lenses, and of course it is an advantage if they are anamorphic.

Cinematic aspect ratio is around 2.35:1 to 2.40:1. On A7iv or any camera that records video in 16:9 you will get superwide 2.84:1 aspect ratio. I am sure you chopped off the sides of the footage & yet the footage is somewhere around 2.55:1 - still very wide. 1.6x anamorphic lens requires 3:2 recording (available in some cameras that allow open gate recording & have 3:2 sensor) 1.6*3/2 = 2.40:1 On camera's like A7iv the best you can go for an anamorphic is 1.33x 1.33*16/9 = 2.36:1 (close enough to 2.35:1)
@ermiaramez976
@ermiaramez976 Жыл бұрын
you’re right, i mentioned that fact about my camera on the video as well. but 95% of consumer cameras dont have open gate 3:2 option. i think Panasonic S5II and Fuji XH2S are the only ones. i zoomed my videos 1.150x to fit the 2.39.1 ratio, but even the original ratio after desqueez is not very weird to use, its around 2.79:1, and we have feature films shot entirly on this aspect ratio, like Hateful Eight. but ofcruse it would be a lot more pleasing to shot 3:2 with these 1.6 , 1.8 & 2 x anamorphics.

@ermiaramez976
@ermiaramez976 Жыл бұрын
no, actually i never tried Nightwalker series, but they are completely diffrent. nightwalkers are spherical cinema lenses for APS-C sensors, but Venus and Saturn series are anamorphic lenses for FULL FRAME sensors. Their greatest advantage over these anamorphic lenses is their speed, T1.2 is excellent for low light conditions. T2.9 is not that great

I have the Fx3 and Sirius carbon set. Due to lack of open gate, the footage is super wide and not as tall. It needs to be zoomed in on to get the height I see in this video. Not a attack on the camera or Sirius, but a word of warning that FX3 is not the ideal pairing with a 1.6 squeeze. 1.3 will look more “proper” - but, the crop also gives you options.

"Instantly": fill the room with smoke, do correct lighting, lots of color grading...

That’s how movies are made, anamorphic lenses are not affordable at all and usually mostly seen used for Hollywood movies, but sirui made anamorphic lenses for a cheap price, they largely impact the “movie look” and a lot of people try to recreate its effect Although I can understand your disappointment, but this is the closet to the movie look you can get with only a lens and a camera

😂😂😂 I like the joke. I guess you already know, but I tell my opinion anyway. Looks like these are standard procedures that have nothing to do with lens. Besides, you instantly get wide cinematic ratio and special flares. Think it like you must crop and lose quality and add flares, softness etc. to achieve it. Now, instantly.

Nightwalkers are for APS-C sensors and they're not anamophic. Saturn is Full Fame and 1.6x Anamorphic
