@@okkeboonstra4587 Its just crazy, you can't buy the things you want without having things you don't want. Like.. I just want a wheel that runs on PC and PS5 and clutch/load cell pedals. They firstly never have stock of the Playstation kit without the silly F1 style wheel and you can't get that with the Load cell pedals. And the wheels don't show up as William said, it's a mess. It's just impossible without spending double the money for a bunch of junk you don't want. Even worse than that last year I had some things in the cart on black Friday and I never could check out, wasted the entire day trying.

Don’t forget with review units and when reviewers work with companies. They also have contractural talking point retirements for their reviews. So that may also be why you’re not seeing specific things mentioned or compared. It could just be how they want their product reviews structured for their intended markets. Doesn’t always mean is just superior. There is a lot of legal behind the scenes with product reviews from sponsored channels and review units.

I think its great news because now game developers will focus more on DD force feedback instead of trying to acccomodate everyone. Raceroom showed the way lately because at least with an SC2 Pro its the best feeling of all now. I bet they already have a DD1 replacement in the making because you just need more headroom to avoid clipping.

Hey Ermin, great job on everything you do. I noticed in this video, you're a a bit shy of what this servo is capable of. Clipping and loss of fidelity only happens if the green clip flat lines. Up and down spikes can exceed the top line here and there and you will still have the all the nuances given. Fantastic job as always my man.

I think sabotaging their own high end is a smart thing because those who bought it may have reason to buy another Fanatec product while otherwise they would have kept their base for years. If they improve higher end with this new motor is probably the next step. Hopefully first though a 10-12 version cheaper than dd1.

For those wondering this weighs half the weight of a DD1 and the Thrustmaster T500rs (which I own as well) is half the weight of the CSL DD. I love my DD1 but if your not training and doing track days at you really dont need a DD1. You can add this to a rig build that folds up to put out of the way for less than what a DD1 and wheel cost. The DD1 does NOT come with a wheel. The wheel rims are not cheap either.

i noticed a few changes with the CSL DD that were made on the sneak, the DD1/2 rubber is gone, a potential solution to the flexing issues, many reviewers now have actually said its a bit smoother aswell... another downside of the DD1/2 when compared to competing bases... its like... its like its a little bit too good, i bet if it had a fan built in it would far surpass that 8nm without issue aswell. i recently went from a DD1 to a simucube 2 pro and it was quite the eye opening upgrade actually, so bloody smooth and pin sharp quick so no regrets there but i have to give fanatec credit where its due, this is excellent for our hobby and with the inclusion of the QR2 which i can only imagine will knock the socks off the QR1 its going to be one hell of a sim racing tool.
@MissedApproachMagpie
@MissedApproachMagpie 3 жыл бұрын
Why would a quick release be so impactful. If people are buying entry level dd at $400 what makes you think they have 5 wheels to interchange to be greatly impacted by QR2? Is there something I’m missing?
@jinx20001
@jinx20001 3 жыл бұрын
@@MissedApproachMagpie well yes... you are missing the part where I said flexing issues. The flexing issues are directly caused by the current quick release due to the natural tolerance required in order to be able to get the wheel on and off, if there was no tolerance you wouldn't be able to remove the wheel reasonably easy so this quick release design means there is a gap, a gap means there is wiggle room, some wheels are worse than others due to the variance in that tolerance which is why some people have bad flex and some people minimal flex. Flex is particularly bad for a direct drive because you are taking away its main advantage over belt and cog wheels, belt driven wheels for example feel more dampened than direct drives because when the motor moves and the belts take up the slack before delivering it to your hands through the wheel, the belts are very tight but there is still that minor slack in the system meaning the feedback is not instant and direct. A direct drive has no belts and cogs and the wheel is connected directly to the motor so there should be no slack... that is unless you have flexing in the quick release which will soak up some of that power before it reaches your hands. Fanatec has one of the smartest and yet worst quick release designs on the market, its super smart because it allows wireless wheels that can be powered by the base meaning you get all the benefits of a wireless system, with none of the negatives like wheels having battery life and limited button inputs over a Bluetooth module but on the other hand it's one of the worst because it lacks solidarity and relies on fragile pins to do the wireless magic. Hope that explains it.
@bigredracingteam9642

@@jinx20001 The tolerance issues are because of cheaper manufacturing - the tighter the tolerance, the more expensive it will be to produce.
@jinx20001
@jinx20001 3 жыл бұрын
@@bigredracingteam9642 well im not so sure about that, due to the design there has to be some tolerance, wheels are already pretty tough to take on and off the wheelbase, if the tolerances were any tighter it would make the quick release aspect really difficult, its just not the best QR design really, the rubber is suppose to help with flex by closing that gap in the tolerance when squashed but because its rubber it still has movement in it so its just not great in general as a QR solution and fanatec know it enough they are looking to change it.

Yes it may be the lowest priced DD control unit , but it is the now standard Fanatec Eco system . so the near 500 euro price tag including the boost kit is not for a full wheel and everything else that makes up a setup. once you add their cheaps wheel another 149 euro and basic CSL two pedal set 79 euro shifter 259.95 euro . and a handbrake 129.95 euro all add up to over 1,118.85 euro's . so it is still way more expensive than all its mid range rivals most that come with a more ready to run out of the box setup. On the flip side it is of course way cheaper than any any other DD system for a full setup and I am guessing a very good stepping stone into the next gen of Podium DD units that will no doubt use the same new internal design for their Higher end units in the near future. I am also sure that there will be cheaper ways to build a CSL DD system via buying used Fanatec wheels and pedals as well as a flooded 2nd hand market for Fanatec's old belt driven wheel bases. Can and will Thrustmaster bring a cheaper all in one box unit to the market or Logitech anything cheaper is going to be most plastic than metal . and for me Build quality for both Thrustmaster and Logitech for a few years now has been a major shortcoming for their products. bringing DD to a wider market is a good thing for sim racing but I still fears the costs are still to high for most players one a budget. loved the review thanks

Very good review mate. Can´t wait to get mine shipped in september. Still driving on a hardly modded G29 which is ok, but doesnt give you the level of immersion you have with a DD Wheelbase. Had the chance to test a DD1 a friend of mine owns for an endurance race and its pretty hard to get back to an gear driven wheelbase, having this experience 😂 We drove the DD1 at around 8Nm, so I think thats pretty much comparable with what the boostkit CSL DD will offer. For me thats enough force, especially for long sessions. The true advantage of DD technology is not the amount of force you can get, but the level of detail it offers. So I think this will do the job very well.

They all say its great but still not quite there compared to the DD1/2. People naturally have different opinions but id suggest watching the other guys as well for a more balanced assessment. I got mine yesterday and I was excited like a small kid at X-mas time, but after three hours with it I am honestly dissapointed. It is noticably weaker than my CLS Elite PS/4, even with the boost kit. If I press FFB test button in the Fanatec configuration software with the CLS ELite, it shakes the wheel so violently that I need two hands to hold it and I am litterally worried it will damage itself. But with the CLS DD I can easily hold the wheel with one hand when set to 100%. It feels like 50% of the CLS Elite. As for driving it the CLS DD feels slightly more precise and refined, but the overall feeling does not in any way impress me. Only thing is the absence of the FFB deadzone on the CLS Elite near the top position. That's nice. But on the other hand I get so much more power from the Elite that I litteraly have to fight the wheel when set to max FFB. I'll give anothe try today but if I cant get more power out of it, it's going back.

Wow, that's amazing!! The boosted CSL DD is half the price of the DD1 but it seems like it's twice as good!! Now there's only one question to be answered: how does the CSL DD actually stack up against the DD2? The DD2 has more than three times the torque (25nm) of the boosted CSL DD, so I guess it's only good for racing marathons or for when someone wants to fit a real steering wheel, which is heavier than the sim racing wheels normally attached (and the fact that the rubber band is now removed will do good to fitting real wheels, since they won't jiggle on the steering column). This would certainly be an interesting comparison! As for the shifters, I just had an idea: what if a sim racing equipment company actually made an automatic shifter? Like a modern "P R N D S/M - +" or the old-school "P R N D 2 1"? I know this might be a niche market but there are some games like BeamNG that actually have really good behavior in their automatic transmissions, so this would be great for the game immersion, don't you think? But there's a problem rising: since the wheelbases only have two gates for the shifters, how will the manual shifters (manual and sequential) connect to the wheelbase? Could there be a two-place adapter connecting to one of the two gates, so the automatic shifter can separately connect to the other gate? And for making this a little bit more difficult, how would a column automatic shifter adapt to a wheelbase? Could there be a wheelbase specifically designed for accepting such a shifter? 🤔

Hey Ermin. I just got a DD1 last month and I'm not sure exactly what all these details are that you keep talking about. Could you do a video about the details you feel with a DD and how they affect your racing?
@benjaminsall3271
@benjaminsall3271 3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t compared a DD to a DD1 but I’m guessing the extra detail comes from that the DD has lower rotating mass. That means the mass that the DD1 has to rotate is higher that what the DD has to rotate. This is due to the DD1 being bigger and having a heavier shaft. The lower rotating mass will mean that you feel more of the lower forces on a DD wheelbase over a DD1. However some argue that the DD1 is more realistic since real cars also have a high rotating mass with the steering column and all. Hope that makes sense
@bigredracingteam9642
@bigredracingteam9642 3 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminsall3271 It's the rotational inertia that's important. The mass of the axle won't make much difference. The additional details some people are talking about are most likely because they went with an in-runner motor for the Csl DD.

I think that the csl dd (mine was delivered to me today, btw, with the booster of course 😃) it’s just the tip of the iceberg… I expect a PlayStation version, maybe a pro version, and also a full review of their high end equipment (dd1 & dd2), maybe implementing in them the inner driven dd technology, in the next future…. Fanatec needed to anticipate the market. They were first in high quality sim niche, but 2020 busted that open enough that Chinese manufacturers are now taking note. It's not that this unit is reasonably priced as much as older units were overpriced for a small niche market and if they didn't get cheaper models, China would swoop in with a cheap DD wheel. The bar is being reset, but cheaper DD wheels are on the horizon from everyone, because of the expanded market. One good side effect of 2020.

So that's why some Simracing hardware is noticeably cheaper right now.... ;) I was looking for a T300 for a friend whose G27 just had some issues, I think it's a cracked optical encoder disk...which is a bit of a bother but fixeable. Due to his job and being a bit burnt out* he was not in the mood to fix it and I looked for some replacements. I mean, on Ebay Kleinanzeigen (Ebay Classifieds in Germany) a T300 base is 70 Euros, a 599XX Wheel (yeah the Alcantara one) is 70-12 Euros or a set of both 175, a set of T3PA-Pro Pedals can be had for around 100 Euros, even those with Loadcell mods! So you could get a rather decent wheel with decent to good pedals for under 300. Add to that an SHH Shifter, a great piece of budget Hardware whose performance punches way about it's sticker price and you're good to go for under 400 Euros. I saw about 8-10 Listings for T3PA-Pros, both modded and unmodded. Incidentally the production period for an SHH Shifter is under a month right now, just a cunt-hair under it, if ordered today the 9th, it would be done on the 7th, with shipping after that, so best time to grab one is now. I got mine recently, and I must say it's awesome, especially for the price, perfect shift throw and I only had two misshifts in the first lap with a 7 speed manual car. 5th and 6th were a bit tricky, but after that it was fine. Totally unlike the Logitech G-Shifter, you are toally confident that it's in the right gear. First car I drove in Pcars 2 was the 330 P4, and I was perfectly comfortable heel and toeing that, unlike with the Logitech G-Shifter where I was happy to have the autoclutch. Same goes for the Miura I drove later, just perfect. Also twist push down, twist 90 degrees, boom you're in sequential mode, flip a switch for extra buttons for the Sequential shifter. 5-10 seconds if you don't change the top plate, 40-50 if you do. Pre-load is adjustable...ok it's a 3D printed housing, but other than that it blows the TH8A out of the water. Well worth a review by you Ermin. Back on Topic, even the Fanatec Stuff is dropping dramatically, I've seen CSL Elite Pedals (2-Pedal) sets for as low as 60 euros, and CSL Elite F1 sets (so CSL Elite base, F1 wheel, 2 Pedal set) for 800-1000 Euros. The higher priced ones included some seats like the Playseat Challenge. Now the question is if that seat is really worth it... CSL wheelbase+Rim for about 490... Fanatec Clubsport F1 Wheels for around 200-250. Someone is even selling a full rig with the CSW 2.5, F1 Esports wheel, the Clubsport V3 Pedals with Performance kit for 1.100 Euros. And a Fanatec/Thrustmaster combo, CSW V2, Formula Carbon and TC-LM Pedals for 580 Euros. A CSW 2.5 Wheelbase for around 530 Euros. Not firm on the Fanatec stuff, so you tell me if those are good prices, although some of them look good. There is something like 10-20 pages of listed Fanatec Stuff, not just wheels and pedals but also other stuff. As we predicted earlier in the year, the CSL DD would trickle down nicely to the second hand and entry markets. *He was on medical leave due to being overworked for two weeks last months, and despite being on medical leave for half the month he still had 28 hours of overtime just with those two weeks. And when he went back a few days ago, they went yeah immediately back to full speed. So yeah it's understandable that he's a bit unwilling to faff around more. He's working in the Railway industry in one of the jobs where there is a severe lack of certain applicants.

The last force feedback wheel that I've owned was the Logitech Wingman Formula Force. Not the GP, but the original, Logitech's first ever FFB wheel. Remember when everything Logitech made was branded "Wingman"? Anyway, I was a teenager when I bought that wheel, which was back in the Windows 95 days, and it was a long time ago so my memory is probably a bit off, but I remember that thing having some pretty strong forces. When you initially turned it on, it would whip itself all the way left, and then all the way right, before centering again, and you definitely wanted to be careful about not touching the wheel while it was doing this. I had a LOT of fun with that wheel back in the day, although the pedals were total crap. Anyway, I have no idea how strong that wheel actually was, but I'm guessing it was probably lower than 5NM. I just ordered Fanatec's GT DD Pro as I would like to use it with both PS4 and PC. I didn't bother going with the boost kit because $150 is a bit absurd for a 180W power supply that one can easily splice together on their own. I can't wait to try it out, especially with the CSL pedals. The load cell kits are backed up until March and the shifters and hand brakes February, so I'll probably order those once I get a chance to try the wheel base out. I might also have to pick up an extra wheel or two! I felt a little weird dropping that much money down on a wheel, but after doing a lot of research and considering all my options, it just didn't make sense to go any cheaper given the quality of the CSL DD experience. Even when comparing used prices of Logitech, Thrustmaster, and older Fanatec gear, the price of everything right now is skewed a little high, which makes the CSL DD/GT DD Pro kits that much more of a good buy. Thanks for your excellent videos! I only recently found your channel and I watched several of them to help me make my decision! I especially liked your review of the GT DD Pro as your feedback on the steering wheel itself was extremely helpful! You've got a new sub!

I currently have a CSL Elite 1.1 that i got for my 1st rig almost a year ago. I have considered the new DD but wasn't sure how much more i'd get out of it. My thinking is that i would find the strength of the FFB to be fine, i don't need to be trying to do a 3 point turn in a Scammell with no power steering. Given this thought i think the 5Nm one would be "strong" enough for me with the option of upgrading to the 8Nm power pack should i decide to at a later date. Your interpretations of the fidelity have, however, pricked up my ears and has taken a step or two forward towards a possible upgrade. I get what you're saying about it just isn't strong enough for you, as it would feel like me turning my FFB off completely. I'd be interested to see a review between the DD and the Elite 1.1as a more favorable comparison. 😄 Great review though.....you might have cost my wife $350 minimum!! 🤣🤣

I told everyone after I got to use my influencer buddies csl dd that I feel it's better then the dd1. I couldn't believe no grain perfectly smooth. But then again it's a servo kotor so I knew it was going to be amazing. As of now servo dd motors are the best. Then add the carbon fiber shaft. The smaller size I knew the responsiveness and speed would be slightly better also. It's weaker sure. But it's so good you lose no detail or a nothing in comaprison if not there may be a little more imo. I absolutely love it so much so it will replace my dd1. It's plenty of power for me if anything most using it actually turned it down a bit as crazy as that sounds it feels more like a minimum of 10nm instead of 8 it's perfect imo. Size compact placement everything about it for me are pluses and positives I literally prefer it over the dd1 crazy right. I'm just happy finally a youtuber who is honest.
