Ernest Chausson Piano Quartet in A major op.30

Spent a few days playing piano quartets and discovered this piece for the first time. Its a great find and well up in the pile of piano quartet dots. I love it.

Considering that Chausson died in 1999, at 44, in a stupid accident of bicycle without having finished his string quartet (three movements of this great masterwork have been compltetd), this quartet with piano is without any doubt his mastrwork in chamber music (in spite of the original concert for violin, piano and string quartet), if not his masterwork in general. the themes are splendid, the harmony is refined, the writing is excellent, and the overall construction is very firm. Thank you for posting this masterwork.

La mort accidentelle de Chausson est une perte irréparable. J’y pense toujours quand je passe par la côte de Limay, lieu de l’accident. Cette époque qui a produit Fauré, Ravel, Debussy et Chausson éveille l’admiration.
