Ernest Harmon Air Base 1953

Ernest Harmon Air force base, Stephenville, Newfoundland. Early construction, Hansen Highway Bypass road. 1953-1960. Korean War images 1952 with 807th Battalion and EHAFB was with the US Army - 347th Engineer Aviation battalion. Major (later Lt. Colonel) Claxton Ray.

l lived there during the time frame of this video 1953 to 1956 l was about 7 years old my dad was stationed there with the 61first fighter squadron we lived off base and l watched them build this road im 76 years old now what an adventure.

Where did you live off base? My parents had Ray's trailer Park, later bayview motel. = Major Ray

Not sure what you mean bu "unreal" Dad built the Hansen Highway, the two red barracks and other on base projects. Bayview Motel (on Queen St. where the Dominion store is now) provided off base housing for Airmen. He also operated the first automated laundromat on the west coast.

I have another one that shows earlier Stephenville and Harmon construction but it is attached to a Myrtle Beach video and i don't have an editing program. [e-mail] for the copy but having a knee operation on the 28 Nov so may not get back for a couple months. Thanks

A great reminder/insight into the amount of work the Yanks did. Excellent narration, it's like I was actually there...actually I was, 1960's to 1980's.
