“Guitar playing to me is more of a means to an end, the end being the creation of music. The guitar is a tool to execute my ideas and bring them to life." In this episode, we speak with Polyphia's Tim Henson about his approach to the guitar as a vehicle for expression and songwriting.
Tim Henson relies on Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom electric guitar strings. You can find them here: ernieb.al/sthb
Tim also uses Ernie Ball Clear & Silver Nylon Classical strings which you can find here: ernieb.al/ClearSilver
String Theory is a web series from Ernie Ball that explores the sonic origins of some of music's most innovative players. Watch additional episodes of Ernie Ball: String Theory here: ernieb.al/1QtdTx9

Well done Ernie Ball marketing department!!! Loved hearing Tim talk about his story and his music. Great visuals too. Tim spends just a short time talking about Ernie Ball in the middle of the video, but does not bombard us with attempts to sell. He gets the point across, but doesn't turn the video into an in-your-face sales pitch. THIS is GREAT marketing. I don't know what those clowns at Liberty Mutual and other dinosaur companies are thinking, wasting our time with their trashcan boring ass commercials, but if all marketing departments put their efforts into giving us GOOD content of substance, stuff we care about, their message would be far more effective and would stick with us. Thanks Ernie Ball!

My favorite thing about the Polyphia guys is that they proved to me and others that guitar still has plenty of life, creativity and surprise left in it. I've played for over 20 years and I know other guys who have played for as long or longer. We all were pretty bored with guitar at one point and it's always guys like Tim who come along and show you that you just need to put your own unique stamp on your playing when you get to that point. On top of all that, I think guitar really needed Tim and his band. Guitar needed someone closer to the younger generation to update the guitar and make it cool to modern music fans. I don't think anyone has done a better job of birthing the newest batch of shredders. You have to appreciate and respect that if nothing else.

I love this guy. It's funny how his story on how he aspired to become who is he is today could of come across in a totally different way if someone else had said it. His words are genuine. He dreams big, and he scores big. But everyone here needs to understand one fundamental thing that each of us can do on our own: he probably practices in his sleep. Consistency is the most important fundamental of conditioning. Regardless of your discipline. If you stick at it with the intention of improving and with proper effort, you will succeed. The first time I heard GOAT... I was like... I will never be able to play this.... come 1 year later, I can play the whole thing.. I took a solid approach (sectioned, slowed) and fit in practicing whenever I could. There was no magic trick. Anyways, enough about me. Congrats Tim.. you are making it big and I am excited to be able and watch the journey alongside. 🤘

Love the metalwork on Tim's guitar. I can tell it's super heavy, but shit it looks good

I grew up listening to Joe Satriani and wanting to become the greatest guitarist in the world. That goal eventually shifted to ‘greatest guitarist at my college’, which then had to shift to ‘greatest guitarist in my household’ which I am proud to say I have accomplished. Respect to Tim for accomplishing his goal too tho

You may ask yourself who this young punk kid covered in tattoo's... Is he even old enough to play...??? Yes & he's pushing boundaries & a generational talent. His practice regiment is paying off he's becoming one of the best guitar players to ever pick one up. Tim Henson is something special now to see if he can translate all that talent into amazing songs because most prodigy and geniuses can't write a damn good song you'd hear on the radio. Polyphia is one band that may be able to do it though they are alreadry close but it's not yet complete IMO needs a Maynard James Keenan type figure on vocals who can let the music speak and not try and steal the spotlight. This kid is a once in a generation type player

@@redchannel8610 Did your Ben Shapiro video already end or why are you here wasting your time reading comments of people who enjoy a band you hate? How sad is your life bro ...

Always enjoy hearing what they come up with. I’m an old guy now. Will be 42 this year. Nu metal was the biggest thing going back in my teens. And they’d probably think it’s an odd comparison. But to me they have that groove that some Nu metal bands had that so many bands have lacked over the last two decades.

Nailed the marketing on this video. It's not on the nose "buy this product", it has an excellent interview and music aspect to it. Enjoyed it a lot

its the mentality..like everything else in life..Jim Root was asked if he felt like he has achieved everything and Jim responds something like " I could be the best guitar-player on earth and still not feel like I´ve achieved everything..there´s not enough time.."
