My brothers and I collected Mad magazine issues when we were growing up. One issue had a spoof of Loretta Young's twirl where her dress gets caught in the door and her skirt ends up tearing off.

"John" was a reference to Loretta's announcer, John Milton Kennedy, who usually delivered the opening commercial for her sponsor's products. She'd usually waltz in wearing one of her gowns, say a few introductory remarks about the evening's story, and ask John to say a few words about the sponsor's product......

Jolene Brand must have been a real sport to do this, but I have a feeling she must have seen the humor, and said "Sure, Ernie. I'll do it."

One thing I always notice when I watch this, is how she winces just before the pie hits her. I wonder how many times she had to rehearse that scene.

I remember the other Loretta Young parodies by Kovacs included: The doorknob coming off in her hand. A fat lady walking in and falling through a trap door on the floor. The lady (Jolene Brand) walking to the grand piano where the top of it slams down on her fingers.

I also remember a version where the door slams on the skirt of her dress as she walks in, instantly ripping off her dress and leaving her in her underware...
