Maybe the more "adult" and consistent of all Krenek´s String Quartets - the scaling up of some strings contracted by the main theme sounds like making questions which Krenek for the first time in my humble opinion, tries to address. And that is a merit in itself. Hindemith, Englund, Sibelius followed the same path actually. But Kemer needed an orchestra to fly over the clouds or a piano quartet and he didn´t.

This is a beautiful and fully achieved quartet, afte r the more experimental (but beautiful also) 6th quartet.

This is truly beautiful, almost transcendent, whatever that means :). Strangely, it is more "accessible" than Krenek's 6th quartet.

The 6th seems to be a more direct approach to Schoenberg's dodecaphony, this one has a bit of the early "spark" that gave birth to his first 4 quartets.

High tension, low resolution... On the string, trying not to fall! Great!
