I really hate how they made it so humans just gained powers from the lion turtles instead of channeling energy within themselves and studying the other animals and spirits.
@CassandraPantaristi6 жыл бұрын
It makes sense to me though. First they got the "powers" of the elements from the Lion Turtles before people mastered the elements by their respective teachers (badger moles, the moon, dragons, and the bison). It was to protect people from the spirits. My guess is that the lion turtles didn't want humanity just wielding the elements all willy-nilly, to them it probably wasn't necessary. After the Avatar became a thing and the lion turtles ceased giving people the power of the elements, the ones that had what was later to become bending, reproduced and passed on that "bending gene" I'll call it here. Thus they are the proto-peoples of what would later become the four nations. As time went on, people who possessed the elements mastered them through their teachers. People would then hunt down the lion turtles until the energy-bending turtle was the last lion turtle left, which Aang would later find to figure out how to defeat Ozai.

It doesn't come from any lion turtle it comes from your internal energy(your chi). In the avatarverse you have to manipulate your chi which had been fixed to your surroundings (Polar regions, Plains/terrains/tropical regions,volcanic island, high mountains and mountain forest) which was inherited from our ancestors by being fixed to these environments by learning from the original benders and they passed these knowledge to their descendants. The one who didn't have the required skill turns to be a non-bender, in reality there is no non-bender he/she requires prior skill to be a prodigy/master. Remember your chi is the source of your bending. The words of a man who master the 4 elements for a 1000 times in 1000 lives. THE AVATAR STATE The avatar state is a power we gained from our past lives, it's experience of the world, it's skill, it's knowledge of the people and culture you've gathered by our own because it is necessary to solve the upcoming problems of the future and the imbalance between the physical and spiritual realm using the experiences of our action and situations that's the reason why the avatar state of the new avatar is more powerful than the former one.

How great would it have been if Wan was banished from the city because of his selfish and thieving nature. Naturally this would make Wan angry and out in the wild he comes across Dragons fighting with these amazing powers. His anger is what drives him to mimic these beasts, and he learns to bend fire. He wishes to return to the city to hurt those that banished him but learns of the destructive nature of his powers. Then through acceptance he learns other elements mimicking the corresponding animal/moon, and grows to be one with the spirit world. He would learn fire out of angry, water out of wanting to stop hiss anger, earth from a place of curiosity and air from understanding. THis would have allowed his progression as the first avatar to have a human experience. He is not perfect but he knows he can stop the evil.

I still hate how they portrayed Ravaa and Vaatu in this. They're obviously supposed to be based on the yin yang of Eastern philosophy, but by making Ravaa the good one that's always supposed to be in control and Vaatu the essence of pure evil and chaos, Bryke kind of spit on the concept. The yin yang are supposed to be opposites, yes, but complementary opposites that are dependent on each other for balance. What is the Avatar all about? Balance. If Bryke wanted giant kite spirits, sure, whatever, but making them both collectively the Avatar spirit or some sort of tertiary spirit of balance being the avatar spirit would have been a better direction. They're just Neutral Good (Ravaa) and Chaotic Evil (Vaatu) when they should be something more like Lawful Neutral and Chaotic Neutral. That would have created a way more interesting narrative and quest for balance when neither spirit is explicitly good and bad. But I guess that would be too complicated for the now grown up audience that has already had a TON of that in the first series (asshole earthbenders in Zuko Alone and like all of Ba Sing Se and showing the good side of the fire nation for like half of season 3).

If they are referring to yin and yang, it’s yin, chaos, that is normally feminine. They got this shit soooo messed up. Like, yin and yang LITERALLY can not exist without each other. It isn’t like one is keeping the other in control; it’s a philosophy. Like, a natural wild fire is destructive, but many ecosystems thrive on them. It’s the idea of how dark and light, (the literal translations) can not exist without each other because they CAUSE each other. This isn’t about good vs evil, this is about how our existence could not happen without chaos. It’s a natural order. This show Westernized great Eastern philosophy and thought. I don’t mind the idea of bringing “‘Mercia” in, but don’t ruin something that we often don’t explore! Especially something so interesting

Western values also has concepts of order and chaos although not as obviously stated. Excessive order is often represented as tyranticcal states or the Tower of Babel in the Bible, and chaos are things like the Leviathan that God, the force of order, killed to give rise to civilization. It seems like the show just sucks because it's made by progressive ideologues who purposefully reject the thousands of years of thought that went into Western traditions just because traditions are bad.
@CrizzyEyes2 жыл бұрын
I don't think "yin = chaos." It isn't that simple. In fact yin and yang were formed from primordial chaos to provide order. A better way to describe it is yin is the "receiving, passive" principle and yang is the "giving, active" principle. It is more about internal harmony and conflict with your emotions and state of mind. Chaos is the state of being when these two sides do not agree and order is the state of being when they are in harmony, it is not intrinsic to either principle. The "me good, you evil" bullshit comes from Zoroastrianism which in turn probably informed Abrahamic religion.

The thing about Rava that's so mind-bogglingly ridiculous is that _any_ cursory study into Mythology often has The Feminine as a chaotic force, not a force of order or peace. There are always exceptions, of course, but they were exceptions that made sense: Ares and Athena, for example, are both deities of war, but Ares is chaotic and violent, and represents the aggression and chaos that is inherent in warfare and the shedding of blood, whereas Athena represents the strategy and tactics and "game" of warfare, which perpetuates the sense of order and flow that a battle carries with it. This makes sense as fights and struggles are often a masculine, testosterone-laden affair, while discussion and observation are often more female-oriented. This is especially inherent in eastern philosophy and theology, which E;R mentions in his next video. And we've seen the "evil, dangerous female" a lot, besides. So if you're couching your mythology firmly in the Eastern side of things, let alone just mythology in general, why are you making the "spirit of light and peace" feminine, rather than masculine? That just doesn't *work,* Bryke...

I like how the core theme of Korra is that every achievement/ability/concept can simply be acquired with no effort from the main character. The titular character, including this weird hair boy, is just given power. Because in order to pander to sjw multigender fuckwits, they need to have a relatable MC, one that is given everything by right and never needed to work for anything.

@blindeagleace36296 жыл бұрын
SuperUnunquadium Actually no, I can actually relate more to Korra instead of Aang. Aang just seems to good and I envy a person like Aang but Korra is far more relatable to me. And lasted I checked I wasn’t a SJW and I have a job and I’m in college. Korra works for everything. She has to work for other people’s respect. She has to work to be a better Avatar. She has to work through a PTSD and her being crippled. Korra is far more human and relatable then Aang. Because she is far more flawed and makes more mistakes. The core theme isn’t that you can do things with no effort. Did you even watch the show. Korra works her butt off.
@timur229936 жыл бұрын
Being flawed and making mistakes isn't an issue, Ace. Not acknowledging these flaws and mistakes is one part of the problem however. The second par is not being called on those flaws and mistakes just because you made it stop, not even undo the destruction caused by it. It gets even worse when you notice that Korra gets a pat on her head for her "heroic" actions, even tho her heroism is basically dealing with few of the problems that she caused. No mater how I look at the show I don't see Korra getting over her impulsive, stubborn behavior, despite that being a cause of not just her problems, but the universe levels of catastrophes.
@blindeagleace36296 жыл бұрын
Timur Pirkhal Okay rewatch Season 3 and first part of season 4. Korra feels guilty and apologize a lot. She feels guilty for leaving the portals open and she acknowledges the people’s frustrations for keeping them open. Also she is beating herself up for being disconnected to her past lives. Korra makes mistakes and is able to see her own flaws. What problems did she start again? In book 3, it’s not her fault that Zaheer and the Red Lotus came after her. In book 4, it’s not her fault that Kuriva became a militaristic dictator. That’s Zaheer’s fault for killing the Earth Queen. The only thing that I see that is her fault is in book 2 when she opens the portals. And again, she does feel guilty for doing that, for being so easily manipulated. Again, how is her personality the cause of the problems that she is actively trying to fix?

I've just realized that Wan is a classic tabletop RPG murderhobo. 1. he's literally a hobo, 2. his first solution to anything is to either threaten with force, steal, or kill, 3. if this shit wasn't PG-13 or something like that, he'd burn the Chus into a crisp, just so he can get off to how just he is.

(part 3): the segment that covers how it comes back to Korra, eventually kicking into some kind of plot about creating a "dark avatar", trying to prevent a cycle from starting, and then ending the cycle before it even began. In the process, the original avatar spirit is torn away from Korra and destroyed, but a new one is created and the new cycle starts with korra; thus effectively tearing and cutting away all ties that the original avatar had. As well as this also shows the writers and producers of this show are practically rubbing it in fans of the original show's faces and practically admitting that the producers, writers, and shit wanted to do their own thing, but wouldn't have been able to have any ground to push their product without riding on the coat tails of the previous work's success and shitting all over it in the process of their airing of their "master piece". That said, one could only hope that at the end of this tragedy that Korra and what's her insignificant face wound up in the spirit world and the first thing they ran into was the face stealer and died, then the abomination that was "republic" city would be buried under and destroyed for one writer's 1920's fetish and all would be left back to the four original nations of water, earth, fire, and air to pick up the pieces and advance from there.

They honestly believe that they have this beyond reproach writing ability when it comes to this series it is just mind blowing. LOK was nothing more than a piece of contrived fanfic. I wish more people would mention their names right up there with Nick in bearing responsibility for sinking this franchise. Avatar should still be rolling along, but those two let their egos get in the way. Classic case of the DISEASE OF ME. They wanted to be seen as THE reason for the success of ATLA rather than A reason. As a result we got a steaming pile of mediocrity that IS NOT on the same level as ATLA, no matter what delusional fans may say.

Hey remember when fire benders actually learned fire bending from watching the dragons? Gawd I hate legend of korra.
@darken0id3066 жыл бұрын
Stop sitting on the hate train and at least try to look at a different approach to this whole "Mimimi...Wan destroyed bending origins". :D Throwing fire and knowing how to masterfully bend it are two different things. One can get the power to manipulate the element, but only with the guidance of those who are masters of it, they reach a state that you could call "Bending". Everything else is just throwing fire without any proper control or direction. In that perspective it made a whole lot more sense to have the element given by lion turtles as they only give the humans the power to USE the element, not to know how it works and to bend it perfectly like "modern" fire benders. :)

Darken0id okay but wasn’t being able to produce the fire from your core apart of bending? When Aang was first trying to learn bending in book one from Jeong Jeong, it’s not like he was just able to swing his arm around and fire off like a flame thrower, he had to learn the breath of fire form to even produce any fire on his own.(and this is the Avatar we’re talking about, someone who bending should come a bit more easier too since he’s already learned it thousands of times before in his past lives) Where at all in this episode did Wan learn to produce fire from his core with his breath?? This inconsistency shits on the entire principle of learning to bend if something that has already been established as form that must be learned in order to do that is all of a sudden handed out like it’s nothing.

Yeah, this episode is mindboggling for how the creators slaughtered their whole lore and invalidate it in just a freaking one episode. Not just the origin of Bender, but also the Spirit world. In the original series, the spirit was obviously an omage and attributed to *Animism,* which is a belief that object and places such as river, forest, mountain, etc have soul and alive, and that we should live in harmony with nature or risking their wrath and upset the balance. The spirit in original series is clearly represent an embodiment of that. Hei Ba spirit is embodiment of Forest soul, this is tied to many beliefs in our world, such as Gangga River is considered sacred by Indians in Hinduism. Many beliefs around the world share such beliefs to some extend. But lo and behold... Legend of Whorra made spirit just a glorified glowing pokemon things with no real purpose that tied into our world. Sigh..... What a way to destroyed your own lore.

About 4:32. I interpreted the Gaang's confusion at the Earth King's Just-Bear as more of them wondering why he would adopt such a normal pet when there are more interesting animals to adopt. Furthermore, the fact animal chimeras exist with names that are portmanteaus or just combos of other animals implies to me that regular animals do exist alongside the chimeras. So I don't see much of a problem myself but idk.

I don't know, air and water seem prone to making holier than thou pricks that wouldn't serve humanity well as the first Avatar. I like the idea that the first Avatar would be born of the fire or, my personal preference, earth tribes. But that's based on the idea that the spirit world existed first and the physical world was an inevitable manifestation of that. One that not even the spirits fully understood. In that scenario, benders would've existed before the Avatar, during the perfection period of the physical world. The first incarnation of the Avatar would then mark the end of that perfection period. Sorta like a keystone in an arch. Thereby building the bridge between the 2 worlds. Not some random dickweed who got fingered by a turtle and happened to come across the right spirit at the right time

I think a Water Bender Avatar makes more sense. Water bending developed from humans watching the Moon and Ocean/Water interacting with each other and those two spirits left the Spirit World to bring that order and balance to the physical world. Since they were there in the beginning, I think it’s more fitting Water comes first to set the stage for that balance and flowing with the new physical world. As the world settles that’s when ya see animals and eventually humans pop up. Earth could be as people found balance in the world, they didn’t feel the need to flow so much and thus “stood their ground” as they developed. They found immediate inspiration from Badger Moles, who went along their way but manipulated the environment to their standards. Fire is when passion and energy really started ramping up, where humans were growing either to wishy washy or unwilling to change their ways. They admired the dragons who were part of the world, but flew above it and were energetic flyers as they moved through the skies. Air would be that final ‘unlock’ since it would be a step up to enlightenment, I guess, as they took notes from Sky Bisons who flew in the air like dragons, but at a more calm and peaceful pace.

So...that chase scene where Wan is running away from the people from the city and "outsmarting" them by leading them into "traps" with the spirits...How? Why? That seems to imply that Wan became super familiar with his surroundings in the forest (also kind of set up with a few other scenes) but...why would those guys fall for that shit? They've presumably also been going out into the forest plenty of times to get food for the city and probably for a lot longer than Wan has been out there. Shouldn't they be *way* more familiar with the forest than Wan, even if he has been living in it for...what like a few days?
