In 2019, the new line opened from Copenhagen via Køge Nord to Ringsted. The runway was opened with a half-year delay because the runway had to be equipped with physical SR signals and ATC. The original plan was to equip the line with ERTMS when the line opened. But since DSB did not have enough trains equipped with the new signaling system, ERTMS was postponed until 2021. Now we stand here in April 2023 and only now is the track equipped with the new signaling system.
When the track was built, a small connecting track was also made to Ølby, so that a direct connection to Copenhagen could be established from Lille Syd. The plan should have already provided a new train connection between Næstved and Nivå via Køge from 2018, but this required a rollout of ERTMS, as physical signals would be an expensive temporary solution.
On 2 April, the first passenger-carrying train could run on the section with ERTMS between Ringsted and Vigerslev. 9 days later, on 11 April, DSB could inaugurate the first direct train from Lille Syd to Copenhagen via Køge. This cuts the travel time by approx. 15 minutes between Copenhagen and the stations south of Køge with the new train system that will run between Næstved and Nivå.
