Levi originally slammed the door shut afterwards... he was so upset and desperate to keep Erwin safe, but alas we know what happened in the end :( Imagine loving someone that much to let them go, to let them rest - instead of tying them back down to that living hell. When Levi made that choice in the end, it was completely out of his love for Erwin... He was so appalled at the thought that other people could only view Erwin as a demon, when Levi knew damn well Erwin was way more than that. Though swayed by Floch's statement, Levi was still overrun by his desperation to bring Erwin back, fear of losing him, _until_ that very second of Erwin physically rejecting it - even in his delirious dying moment. _That_ was when Levi realized he couldn't do it, he couldn't _bear_ to turn Erwin into a real demon. He loved Erwin so much he wanted to protect that last shred of purity of Erwin - that last bit of human's innocence. Thus, Levi let Erwin rest, freed him from even more burden and guilt. That was an act of both selflessness _and_ selfishness; selfless to let the one person he loves most go, and selfish because he technically doomed the world by doing so. *SPOILERS* . . . God, I just want Levi to finally rest as well... I'm not usually someone who likes nor encourages the idea that death equates peace, but the SnK universe is just way too fucking cruel. With the current events, even if the rumbling stopped, would it guarantee the world a fast recovery? Millions of people died already in that havoc, the world would be traumatized to hell and back and it would need a long time for everyone to heal. Meanwhile Levi... Levi already lost everyone dear to him. He's broken beyond repair, _god_ he's bruised and battered from the inside out and he's so, so _exhausted_ . If the afterlife truly exists where Levi could be reunited with everyone he loves, instead of stuck in that hell living the rest of his life with extreme ptsd, then I'd rather have Levi finally rest too... go out heroically to leave the world as Humanity's Strongest.

1:10 Goddammit, that look on Levi's face and his little gasp when Erwin says no is so heartbreaking. And then the way Levi actually raises his voice at Erwin at 2:02, the pained look on his face at 2:46 when he asks Erwin if it's more important than his legs or humanity. 😭The shadows covering his eyes at 3:01 as he gives up, realizing that it's hopeless. There's no way he can convince Erwin not to go and he knows that Erwin would never forgive him if he really did break his legs and force him to stay behind. He doesn't want to stand in the way of Erwin's dream, his life's goal, but at the same time you can tell Levi really does care about him and is afraid of losing him. And the worst part is, in the end, he does lose his best friend (or lover I guess, if you ship the two of them). It's so sad because Erwin and Hange are both probably Levi's longest-known and closest friends (besides Isabel and Furlan, who are already dead). It started off with Levi hating his guts and wanting to kill Erwin for forcibly conscripting them and thus leading to Isabel's and Furlan's deaths, to somehow grow into something of respect I guess and later genuine friendship. It's just really not fair, I wish Erwin could've somehow lived.

I started watching aot in 2013, when I was 18-19 years old. I wasn’t an eruri shipper, I didn’t really care about both of these characters (I liked Armin, Jean, Marco and Berthold and I hated Eren, that’s all). After S2 I stopped watching this anime and reading manga, and just a month ago I decided to continue. I thought I’m too old to ship anyone, I’m 30 now… but right after this scene I was like “oh my god now I understand why so many people shipped them O___O” At that very moment I went to google to search “is Erwin Levi canon”, because it felt like they are, even for me, who never really loved both of them (and now I do, I adore this couple).
