One thing I want to point out: when Levi joins the scouts they were on their 23th expedition and the first expedition they take with Eren is the 57th(or somewhere close to that number). I'm not 100% sure of the specific timeline but it definitely shows how much more frequently the Scouts went on expedition after Erwin took over.

I can't remember if Before the Fall ever gave an exact number, but by the 55th year of living inside the walls, there were like 7 expeditions conducted at most. About 6 of them WITHOUT the ODM gear.

This is one of my favorite arcs in the anime even given what is to come... It has such a humanly relatable story till the titans kick in in the final 10 minutes, there is no transformations and mind bending plot twists, just a story to tell and a relationship, a bond, a mutual respect and other human elements to build are used instead of flashy animations and that's what makes it so special for me. Just a bone chilling story of two future comrades meeting and having to respect each other. Please bring tissue boxes for ALL of the remaining S4, coz GODDAMN it gets wild

This OVA is the reason why I think Erwin’s death was for the best. He tells Levi here that if he begins to regret, it’ll dull his choices, and then people will make decisions for him and all that’s left is for him to die. And that’s exactly what happened to Erwin. He regretted being a liar, hiding his selfish dream behind a facade of a mountain of dead comrades and he broke down in front of Levi, unable to make the decision to take out the Beast Titan. Levi literally made the choice for him, and literally gave Erwin the order to die, and Erwin thanked him for it. It’s poetic, and on the writing alone I believe Erwin’s death could not have been more appropriate

My watch order includes the OVAs like regular episodes. For example, I watch OVAs 3 and 2 in between episodes 3 and 4, OVA 1 in between episodes 13 and 14, and OVA 4 in between episodes 49 and 50.

@@carydum9356 Out of all the OVAs, I feel like the first one could've, and in my opinion, should've fit in amongst the first season's official episodes as its content introduces the possibility of titans being more than man-eating creatures, seen again when Connie's mom welcomes her son home even as a titan, and it name drops both "Ymir" and "Subjects of Ymir", which Hange reacts to when she hears about a cadet in the 104th sharing the same name in season 2.

I think there's a pretty good argument that you could / should wait on OVA 8 (Lost Girls Part 3 / Mikasa) until *after* you've finished the entire show / all of S4, honestly. To say that that helps, uhh, bookend and re-contextualize the entire series might be a massive understatement. Also the episode number is ??? which is, uh, appropriate.

I need to point this out, but Erwin did not have a passion for humanity. Erwinn had a passion for proving that his father was right, and he conned everyone into believing it was for the sake of humanity. Everything he did was in order to find the truth, and he would have sacrificed humanity in order to achieve it, which was why he died in the first place. First because he went on the mission in spite of Levi's protestations, and again when Levi choose Armin over Levi. Erwin was the "devil humanity needed", but he was still a devil who was only using humanity to achieve his own goals.

It got me thinking. This OVA was released in 2014 (the manga in 2013). Chapter 71 Bystander was released in 2015. Were they informed that Keith Shadis is the former leader of the scouts, or did they not know who that character is? Did he have the same voice actor? That actually goes back to the very first episode of the show where he also has some lines.

I think I'm right in saying Isayama didn't make this story, but it was actually fan made. Isayama liked it so much he decided to make an OVA and make it canon for the anime.

Crunchyroll sometimes seems to list different languages as "seasons" in their drop-down menu. That's likely why it is listed as season sixty-six.

A holdover from when they were sub only. There was no support for different audio languages, so when they started to add dubs, they had to put them in as separate "seasons." This made the season listing for shows with many languages, including AoT, extremely cluttered. Finally they added the option to change between multiple languages for each episode, and merged the many language seasons into one. But it seems like many still have a higher season number than they should, because that was the one that the other language versions of the same season was merged into.

Hi VKumine I hope you are well, I'm going to be quite long but I hope you take the time to read my message, the last one concerns Erwin ;) 3 info not present in the anime: 1) Why Levi is strict about housekeeping. If we remember correctly Kenny found Levi in ​​his sister's room who was dead, Levi not in good shape either. What is not explained is that Levi spends several days in this room with his dead mother. It is therefore next to the corpses of his mother in the DARK, the DUST and in the FILTHY, that Levi is alone with his THOUGHTS and his SUFFERING. Like Mikasa who added her scarf, Levi added an element. Even throughout the anime when Levi has at least one shirt that has a collar for the neck Levi adds his personalization. A white fabric that he puts around his neck, check it yourself very often, Levi wears it. Where does it come from, Levi's depression returned, Levi himself has to tear off a piece, cut and regularly cleans this fabric, which comes from the dress his mother had when she died. A simple piece of fabric that allows Levi to take his mother everywhere with him. To check watch Eren's trial in season 1, we see several army corps without the capes we easily see the necks, it's easy to see that Levi is the only one wearing this white fabric RIP mom. 3) In memory of Erwin. After the final battle of season 3 that you saw not long ago, the rest of the battalion could not take the bodies of the fallen soldiers, far too many. So they returned to make their report explaining the situation, losses and everything else. Then the bodies were later recovered. Levi traveled to personally collect Erwin's body and organize his funeral. Here I hope you liked it.

Since you watched No Regrets *after* the conclusion of Erwin's arc: Erwin says something very pertinent after Levi kills the aberrant. He says "If you begin to regret, you'll dull your future decisions and let others make your choices for you ... All that's left for you then is to die." In the faceoff against the Beast Titan, Erwin sits down and begins to despair about reaching the basement. He starts to regret that he might miss the chance to see the secrets stored there and find the truth of humanity. Levi comes to him then and tells Erwin that Levi is making the choice. He tells Erwin to charge forth and die. Erwin regrets, Levi makes the choice for him, and all that was left was for Erwin to die.

OVAs 1-3 are skippable. They were decent-ish filler that helped pad out the fairly long wait between S1 and S2. OVA 1 (Ilse's notebook) was a great addition that helped build up the titan-shifter mystery between S1 and S2, but is kinda pointless to rewatch at this point. Unless you want to see more Hange and Erwin! OVA 4-5 (ie. No Regrets) was definitely worth watching - ideally sometime in the middle of S3 (or after S2), but works just as well here. Edit: you should definitely watch OVA 6-7 (ie the first 2 / 3 episodes of "lost girls"). You could either watch those now (ie. after S3), or, for a somewhat more complicated watch order: S3 P1/2 ✅ OVA 4-5 (No Regrets) ✅ OVA 1 (if you were to watch this, it does slot in chronologically and thematically after No Regrets...) S4 P1 (take a solid breather first, cuz you're in for a whole new ride here...) OVA 6-7 S4 P2 + P3 OVA 8 (you could watch OVA 8 earlier, but in retrospect I think it'd actually make a lot of sense to watch this *after* finishing the entire series...)

Note that the intended watch order, in order of air date, is more or less as follows: S1 OVA 1-3 S2 OVA 4-5 (No Regrets) OVA 6-8 (Lost Girls) S3 P1/2 S4 P1/2/3 My 2c though is that you could optimally watch OVA 4-5 either before or after S3 P1, and before S3 P2 (which it is obviously quite relevant to), and that OVA 6-7 could be watched anywhere from after S2, to even halfway through S4 (eg. at the midpoint between P1/P2). OVA 8 may be best watched *after* you've finished the entire series. Everything else (ie OVA 1-5) should definitely be watched before starting S4, if you're even going to watch those at all. The OVAs are definitely optional, and all of them are more or less filler (but particularly OVAs 2-3, one of which is a goddamn cooking competition lmao). The watch order is confusing b/c Attack on Titan aired in multiple drawn out parts over a goddamn decade, *with* some additional side-stories / filler content / backstory expansions to both tide over viewers and help hint at some future plot developments and worldbuilding (note: if you haven't already you should definitely watch all of the S1-3 OPs + EDs at some point haha). Worth noting that you're super lucky to be able to just binge all of this all at once lmao - and to be able to legitimately avoid asshat manga-reader spoilers / plot "predictions" that was the bane of internet discussions as this series was actually airing. Needless to say though do not look up anything anywhere, particularly anything related to S4, and *particularly* any search related to anything attack on titan / the-final-season (ie. S4) related on youtube. And to attempt to (pre-emptively) clear up any possible confusion: S4 (aka "attack on titan the final season") was split into / aired in 3 parts. P1 / P2 are bog-standard TV episodes / TV cours. P3 is a pair of films that wrapped up the entire series, and were (iirc) also aired in episode format, with a unique final OP + ED in Japan. For all intents and purposes P3 is just the extended finale / conclusion of S4P2, and S4P1/2 is similar / comparable in length to S3P1/2. If we had more... standard... season naming (a la say game of thrones), Attack on Titan would just have 6-7 numbered seasons, but I digress. Regardless, S4 is very much its its own thing, and it very much does make sense to talk about it (and its two or more internal subdivisions) as such.
