Erwin Schulhoff was a genius. The fact that his brilliant compositions are not very well known, even among most composers, is unfortunately a sign that fascism was successful in censoring his music. But I'm glad to see more people promoting him. His work is so unique and forward-looking.

honestly no he was not a genius but a decent second-rank composer. Put Bartok, Webern or Gershwin on after this and you will be reminded of the difference. Schulhoff was a Poulenc not a Ravel

@@GreenTeaViewer Haha you are proving the original commenter right. If he was an American or German and his life wasnt cut short and censored, you will never hear the end of his genius (and no, it doesnt matter if you consider him second-rank or not).

Wonderful!

First movement's beginning sounds very much like Shostakovich... Though this was written when Shostakovich was about 20, so my original thought was backwards! Wonderful music nonetheless.

Can you do his Concerto for String Quartet and Wind Symphony?

I don't have the score for that, sorry.

Mov. 3 has certain Bartok flavor. The tango sounds nice but it isn’t a tango. Another failure like Stravinsky tango

It's not supposed to sound exactly like Piazzolla, it's 1920's avant-garde chamber music inspired by Tango.

It's amazing at all that Schulhoff is aware of Tango in 1923 in Eastern Europe.
