My mother was a blind architect, her mother was too Designing huge walls no man could ever get through, mmh Born with a brick heart and mortar tongue, they made do Now the only thing I know is to build those same walls too Don’t you build it too tall It may never fall The air's getting thin You're still human, fragile woman My mother taught me the way to operate a crane (Ooh, crane) Carrying heavy loads with a smile through pouring rain These walls I'd perfected left me unprotected From that emptiness inside, now No asking why, just get out while there's still time, baby Don’t you build it too tall It may never fall The air's getting thin You're still human, fragile woman Armed for destruction Don’t you hurt yourself, girl Don't you build it too tall (Don't you, don’t you, don't you build it) It may never fall The air's getting thin, thin, thin, thin You're still human, fragile woman

This is deeper than deep. I studied this video and song many times. It’s so profoundly relevant, especially for Black women and our ancestry. Sometimes we have no idea about those emotional walls and how we got them until we see the breadcrumbs that lead to a traumatic history filled with “surviving”. If a child exhibits these signs today, a psychiatrist would diagnose them right away. If generations linked to slavery exhibit it, there’s very little discussed about the trigger trauma and coping skills passed down as if it were a personality type instead of a coping mechanism passed down through centuries of learned behaviors. Many of us are stronger than we can even understand, but still so...well...fragile. I plan to introduce this video as a talking point to the women in my fam. Awesome insight! ❤️💡

@AlThurayya75 жыл бұрын
Wow. Just wow. At first I was just like woooooh my girl KILLED it both the singing AND the dancing, who even knew she was this sick of a dancer! MATEE! Then the description. Amazing, and could not be more relevant to me right now you don't even understand. I dunno if anyone will care but for anyone that might be in the same boat, yesterday I cleared off my dresser and finally made like a little "shrine" kinda thingy for my mum, after 7 years of her passing, her anniversary is in a week (I just remembered 7 was her favourite number as well). For the first time, I feel like I've hit a point with my grief that feels like I'm finally starting to feel what it feels like to accept things for what they are, appreciate what I had but I need to stop holding on to all this pain cos it hurts too much, and let it go. I recently found a little note she wrote to herself in a diary I was finally ready to face reading, I cut it out and kept it, stuck it on my wall, like it's a message from her to me. It says "Relax, everything is okay".. It was just a note to herself but lord it's painful realising my mum must have not felt okay to right that for herself. I only started writing to myself like that since I started experiencing depression and anxiety. Right next to her shrine is a wall with of messages I wrote to myself and stuck up to keep me going in life. I'm so glad I put all these things up, especially side my side because I realised, SHE KEEPS ME GOING. She's still here with me. She'll continue being my strength. She'll never really die because her energy lives on and she's in me, all of her pain, all of her greatness, have it within me and I will continue her legacy on and better myself for her memory. I know this is a TLDR but for anyone that might be in the same boat I hope this can help, in saying these things for myself it also applies to anyone reading that may feel the same kinda feelings and struggle with similar problems with grief, and maybe doing something similar for yourself may help cos I'm wondering why I didn't do this years ago! But maybe I wasn't ready, everything in its own time I guess. Lord I feel so vulnerable right now sharing this shit is fucking difficult cos I hardly mention this shit to anyone, I hate pity and I don't want people to think I want sympathy, but I realised, it helps when anyone tells me they're living with depression/anxiety/bereavement cos no one really talks and opens up about these things, so if I know I feel comfort when someone tells me (as it re-affirms my existing knowledge that I'm not the only one, even when I feel like I am), why don't I share my own experiences as well, I really hope it helps someone reading this, even if it's just a thing where you can see, it does get better, it just takes time, I hope you have hope and can find some inner peace in KNOWING it will get better. Cos I never thought I'd feel how I feel right now and I feel blessed. Eryn I doubt you'll see this but THANK YOU SO MUCH for this, the song, your voice, the dancing, all the words in the description. It's triggered a bit of a milestone for me you know! It honestly felt like you were speaking directly to me, and I realised ah shit it's not just me that feels like this then, we're all in the same boat man and it's great to know your not alone in this massively scary but beautiful ocean of life!

This is by far one of the most moving and beautifully touching visuals I've ever seen. Which with its just as beautifully emotionally and touching choreography really truly brings this vulnerably beautiful record to life like no other. All of the emotions from Eryn's beautifully rich and powerfully touching vocals coupled with her and the dancers just as beautifully touching dancing will have you either moved or almost moved to tears with how beautiful it's. Especially seeing all forms of such great art come together to show what a truly great to the core artist Eryn really is. You can definitely see why the late great Prince was such a fan and even collaborated with her before his untimely passing.

Interesting, I got it completely different... more of a "too strong for to long" state, a pattern conditioned by family and experiences... I know this too and the song spoke right to my heart
@uchihahikaku16305 жыл бұрын
I'm a guy so i would trust your perspective over mine. I feel like what you describe is most likely what Eryn's talking about. But i'm still sticking with hegemony too. You could keep tracing back to that. If you think of the effect it would have had on the Men in the past, which then they would have impacted on the Women, their wives, sisters, daughters. Then the generations down the line. Powerful shit! But that's just my perspective. I'm not Black but i know hegemony. It's a killer. Everyone knows it too, just maybe not consciously.

So I was just searching through youtube hoping to find meaningful music and i must admit the visuals of the video made me replay it at least five times. The artistry, the movement though physical story telling had me captivated, moved and AMAZED. This is in addition to the melodic, hypnotic tones of the vocal artist. PLEASE i mean NO disrespect through not recognising the artist or message ... initially... but THANK YOU GOD for allowing me access to both. I am truly moved in a much needed way that my words can not express but my spirit needed. Thank you.
