In the future episodes do you mind elaborating and defining what the terminology your using means? Like channel, shoulder, and close out?
@carrielee16244 жыл бұрын
By channel and shoulder she just kinda means like the sides of the wave. A shoulder is a part of a wave that hasn't broken yet. A closeout is a wave that's going to break all at once thus not giving you a chance to surf the wave parallel to the beach or for a long enough time. If you caught a small closeout wave you'd probably just end up riding the white water (the bubbles after the wave breaks) which isn't necessarily bad if it's your first time! Hope that helps.
@carrielee16244 жыл бұрын
and dropping in (if you don't know that one) is when a surfer ALREADY is riding the wave (because they were in the ideal spot to paddle and catch it) but you try and go for the wave too which cuts off the surfer already on it and forces them to end their ride b/c they would run into you. Don't do this!

I live in London which means there’s beaches 1hr+ away, recently we decided to go to Devon, Westwood Ho. It is known for surfing (in England) so I thought I’d try it out, and I’m OBSESSED! I now go to Devon every month or so, even tho it’s 4hrs away. I learnt in a surf school, I highly recommend.

I've watched all your surf tutorial videos, and for the first time ever I went out surfing the other day! I swam out, paddled for a wave and actually popped up and rode it to shore on my first attempt! I was so happy and shocked, and I dont think I would have been able or felt confident enough if I hadn't spent time watching your tutorials and surf videos 🥰🥰 They have helped me so much and ive watched them a million times. Love your work eryn, inspiring and changing peoples lives from all over the world!! Love from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️

ocean knowledge is so important! I live in Sydney and when I watch Bondi rescue it shocks me how many people get in very dangerous situations because they don't know how to read the ocean. Even tourists should make themselves familiar with basic stuff!

Hey Eryn can you go over nosediving and how to avoid that? I find that when I take on green waves the nose of my board (longboard or foam board) starts dipping in the water and I either wipe out or get scared and bail
@juliakoltzoff68704 жыл бұрын
beiko hi! Hopefully she’ll go over nosediving or “pearling” in her next vid but if you can’t wait that long....it sounds like you’re too far foreword on your board. Maybe try to back up a little and find that “sweet spot” where your balance is equal. Also, when you pop up, lean back a little more. That might help! I’m sure she’ll explain it! Aloha!🤙🏝

what’s the best advice u would give to an begginer surfer? i just moved to socal & am going to start surfing pretty soon with the help of an experienced surfer friends so i’m pretty excited 😆🌊
@AlexSAdventures Жыл бұрын
@@zoehaynes777 Hi! having a friend to go out with you is going to help a lot! If your friend can give you some one on one time and help you really get the basics down that is HUGE. Also learning the ocean, I feel like learning the timing of the wave, the paddle and pop up is the biggest learning curve to surfing. Just knowing where to set yourself up on the wave and when to paddle is the hardest part. I would practice pop ups on land before heading into the water, to really get some muscle memory. Also don't rush to your feet if your first couple of surf sessions you only get to your knees that's amazing!!! Its progress! With each session you will get better! Just have a ton of fun out there :)

Loved it! I learned surfing two years ago and never had the chance to do it again😭 (i live in switzerland) Question: Often times when I tried to paddle to the line-up, a wave came over me and I mostly tried to keep the board on me, but it happens that it still slips away. I really don‘t want somebody to get hurt, but it‘s hard to have it perfectly controlled. What is the best to do in this situation?

Started trying to learn how to surf in Cape Town, the thing I've been struggling the most with is actually getting to the back line, which has been a tad embarrassing coz it makes me feel like my arms are just way to weak to paddle. I found just trying to keep up with the other guys have made me super insecure and doubtfull if I'd be able to gain this skill I so badly want to obtain. But I guess you only get stronger if you keep going out to paddle right

My friend and I are planning a trip dedicated to surfing when we graduate high school so this is such a great series to just learn the basics! When you are a beginner trying to catch a wave and it ends up being the same one a local/another person is trying to catch, how would you go about that without being rude or trying to seem competitive? And if you are riding a wave that more than one person has caught how do you not bump into each other without loosing the wave? Thank you for all the advice! :)
