Magnificent! Mordechai Gebirtig (1877-1942), who wrote this and many other songs, was murdered by the Germans in the Krakow Ghetto. This song was his response to a pre-Holocaust pogrom in Przytyk, Poland in 1936. Tragically, as we saw two weeks ago, history keeps repeating itself. Egyptians, Babylonians, Romans, Spaniards, Crusaders, Russians, Germans, Lithuanians, Ukrainians, Poles, and Arabs have all taken their turns at murdering Jews. Some wanted mostly that we would give up our beliefs, but others just want us to give up our lives. NO MORE!
