I love those performances, but this is different and utterly enchanting. Love the ornaments in the melody, and the 3 male - 1 female blend is beautiful. Beautifully performed first verse introduction, and accompaniment too and a cappella last verse. Thank you.

Hardly the darkest or cruelest period of history. All periods of human history have given birth to both darkness and light, the two go hand in hand. The following is a quote from the film, "Heartless", a father talking to his son: "You need real dark to see stars 'cause in the city there's too many street lamps and stuff. But when things are really dark, as dark as they can get, you see so much more. So many wonderful things! Sometimes, things'll get darker for you than they do for the rest of us. But you've got to see those moments as something special, because they're showing you things! A way of looking at the world that no one else will ever, ever understand. That's a blessing Jaime, that's not a curse." We hate war, violence, and other horrors, but those things can bring out the best in us. How can we measure the blessings of peace for without something to contrast it to? How can we measure the worth of humanity without having heroes, sung or unsung, who railed against darkness and cruelty? This beautiful carol, my favorite, and wonderfully performed here, brings us hope, peace and light. It has more power even today than does the cruelty and darkness that existed when it was first put down on paper.
