Using distance to nearest hub (line) and the NNjoin plugin to calculate distance to polygons in QGIS

In addition to the Distance to nearest hub (point) tool in QGIS, the Distance to nearest hub (Line) has its uses, especially for visualisation purposes. All of the Distance to nearest Hub fools are however problematic on polygons and in these situations, the NNjoin plugin comes in handy.

Firstly, thanks for your video, it has been very helpful!! I have a question: Is there any way to measure distance between two polygons? In your example the distance between borders of the lakes? And to do it automatically between an amount of polygons? Thanks :)

How does it calculate the distance? Whether its distance by road? or whether is just the length of the perpendicular projection between the two points?

Can you select the fields you want to show in the output attribute table?

Is it also possible to perform this nearest hub algorithm for each nearest hub if its within the same country?
