When I was younger I went down a deactivated logging road, used some orienteering skills to walk off the path. I went where humans probably hadn’t been for 5+ years. I built a lean-to shelter and brought minimal gear and stayed for two nights I will never forget It was combination of pure fear (mostly at night cause of howling and hearing footsteps around me) but also huge sense of accomplishment when I did things like start a fire, find some wild food, etc. and just knowing I could actually do it Of course before I went and did this I already had lots of camping experience, especially the orienteering knowledge.

@@RyanMacWee 😊 This reminds me of a time I went camping way off grid. In bear country. In an area prone to summer thunderstorms. Thankful I had my dog with me. Bear did come into camp snooping around. Didn't find anything. But I did better cat napping in the day than sleeping at night. By the time i got home I was exhausted. But I loved that trip.

Yeah.... Don't venture into abandoned places. It's really dangerous. Wildlife and bad people might cross your path. If you want to prove your resilience, I suggest you embrace a humble and minimalist lifestyle. Forget about your looks and only use the internet when truly needed. After you've done all of that, I can 100% guarantee that everywhere you go will be like wilderness.

Coincidentally, I just heard that when one is in bear country it's MUCH MORE DANGEROUS if one has a dog. That's what'll cause bears to go off. Thanks be to God you lived to tell us about your experience. I'm a woman & would NEVER do something like that although I've had a few encounters with bears. 🙏

@@MsSeckert i think I was lucky with the dog I had. She was a thinker. She didn't crazy bark. She stayed in shadow, put on her deepest bark, and barked once. Just a "go away" bark, and watched. Bear looked around, didn't see where it came from, and walked off. Would I have been happier if I had some wilderness savy man with me? Yep. But there wasn't one. And I now Know, me, God and nature, we got this!

Twelve years ago, I drove to the site of an abandoned railroad tunnel in Colorado (Alpine) at 11,500 feet in the evening. I slept a bit in my minivan and got out at 0300. The temperature had dropped to 32 degrees in late June. There was no moon and few clouds. The starlight was bright enough to read a map! The constellations leapt out at me. "Oh Lord, how great is the glory of Thy creation!" 😊

There’s a real world sect of ceremonial magicians that believe they can summon demons. They do it is via the usual circles and triangles chalked on the ground in the stereotypical manner. But also use an black obsidian mirror as a means for the demon to speak through via reflection. I think of that a lot when I consider my smartphone.

I love going out camping in nature with my young grandsons 7 & 5 years. We make a campfire and sleep rough. We go hiking and collect firewood and water from the river. They love hiking, and we pray the rosary together. In the quietyou get to hear our Lord speaking to your heart. I take my grandsons as they do not have a present father or grandfather. They love being with Grandma. I'm 57 and take my grandsons hiking all the time. I bought them a compass and taught them how to use it. I trained as a volunteer with the State Emergency Service and love sharing what I learned with them. They are awesome boys who absolutely love our Blessed Mother. I am 76 and have always enjoyed short periods of solitude in nature. Where I live it is easy to get away from people in the woods and fields. It is not easy in England to find wilderness, Scotland is easier but means many hours of driving first. The next few nights were terrifying because I had never camped alone. I had flown out of LA to NH for this and had never really traveled alone. 🌟 Great video Father, on a very important subject. I'm older now, but when I was younger, I went out several times alone. It changes you somehow. When you're out alone in the wilderness, you hear God's voice inside you better. You're not distracted by the constant noise of the modern world. It's just you, the Lord, and nature. It changes you and helps a guy mature. Add some prayer and a gold pan, and you have the perfect "sourdough" adventure. The old miners ate a lot of sourdough bread because it was easy to make, and lasted much longer than regular bread. You were living the high life with some sourdough, some jerky,a can of beans, and coffee. There was no McDonalds or jack in the box. Today's young men need to test themselves, and live an adventure or two. 🌟 I think you're quickly becoming the catholic version of Survivorman. Can't wait to see your next adventure video. Just you and a gopro in a tree for a few days. Great concept. Don't forget the sourdough. ✝️ Viva Cristo Rey ✝️

One of our two teen sons does this every year with my brother and nephew. They kayak down a local river from my brother's house to ours camping out each night. They love it!! They only have their cell phones (when it comes to any technology), but only use them to text us in the morning once, and when they find a place to camp every evening so they don't lose battery charge.

Dear Father Mark , I watched your 72 hour movie. I found too many of the things you did so challenging. But I can see you're a strong man. I had a lot of fun seeing you cook and making coffee. I don't think I'd ever do it your way. But I'm an old woman who still learns a lot from you, father Mark. Your readings are always so inspiring and your way of swimming into that river. I really get a charge of all that. Lots of good wishes and greetings from Costa Rica.

I spent all of time in the woods growing up, Taking 3 and 4 day canoe trips down the Clarion, Walking into the Alleghany Forest with nothing but a few odds and ends & a fishing pole, getting lost for days on end. The best days of my life!

In case there is an accident like a broken leg you need to tell someone what area you will be at in case you don't come back in 3 days. To get help I would buy an Emergency Beacon instead of taking a cell phone.

This is a great rite of passage if you ask me. I was kicked out of my house at 16 for skipping too much school. Let me just tell you that I learned a lot about myself (and reality) during those few months... Leaving the nest (comfort zone) is essential in building character to survive in the real world.
