If he did have the time to use the gadget it wouldn't have mattered, he would've had to wait at the teleporter and that would've taken an extra second which is enough to finish him off

Not sure if it's allowed but some brawlers could pass the first stage when they couldn't before. For example for Collete you could've done her super and had a fang stun her such that the super is interuppted. And you could just make the place where the fang is far enough such that they cant use the jump pad.
