@@andreasmakarewitsch1978 I had a couple of days with the guys in Dock when I was chasing SOE in the late 90’s, very helpful and nice guys. A lot of knowledge was in that hanger

The term 'test' is of course a misnomer. A slide, once assembled and installed, cannot be tested. Hence, the deployment of time-expired slides, ideally performed prior to an aircraft entering a Check, is the only viable way of knowing if their manner of assembling and installation was as intended.

A destructive test is still a test. Granted, the slide isn't *destroyed*, but it still needs to be inspected and repacked, and a bunch of bits probably replaced/refilled.

Man, those 737 doors look difficult to open, even with a bit of power assist. :(
@andreasmakarewitsch19782 жыл бұрын
Hello dkat. Thx for your observations. All the passenger doors on the B737NG are manually operated.- there is no power assistance system. The rear doors are resistance-neutral because they rotate around a more or less vertical fuselage-mounted torque tube. . The front doors present the greater challenge because the torque tubes are canted inwards on account of the narrowing taper in the fuselage. Effort in opening them first needs to overcome the dead weight. The left, larger door, which also houses a larger slide, has assist springs (part of the fuselage mechanism- hidden behind the lining). Once on the ground, if the aircraft ends up in a slight list, opening a door on the high side will be a challenge.

LOL, the reason they look difficult to open is because there isn’t any power assist
