6:09 Fuse is an asynchronous co-op game with dice rolling although not repeated rolling. Batman: The Animated Series Adventures (board game) is an asynchronous co-op game with dice rolling and rerolling but not timed (limited rerolls). 6:35 are you sure using 3 dice is the best thing statistically? 3 dice does mean 3 chances for black mask so if you only need 3 torches it makes sense to me (without the math) to reroll the 1 then get a torch (then reroll all 3 to get free). Plus it's easier to look at and handle so it's likely faster.

Very special video for me is this one. Returned to the UK after a trip to Malaysia in 2013 where I'd been introduced to the world of modern board games visiting Meeples board game cafe in Kuala Lumpur. My head full of all these wonderful new titles I set about looking for reviews and stumbled upon this one, which was my introduction to SU&SD.

Escape is a wonderful game! Played it several years back (where does the time go) and I think the curses are an ingenious piece of game design as they're something that create rules that don't just affect the board game itself, in terms of the pieces or cards, but they affect the player. Not being able to use one hand or rolling stuff off tables. The curse cards take the game's mechanics one level higher and off the table itself to play with the physicality of it all, as otherwise you could easily just have a bunch of computers playing this game... It's not a bad thing, but I feel like there are a lot of board games that forget they're a physical board game being played by actual human people, as possibly during development there's so much theory-crafting to it all that you just end up playing it on a bit of paper or something... So games that directly involve the player are always going to be magical.

I have both games, as they seem to target different audiences. I play a lot of games with my GF, but those games shouldn't take much longer than an hour. I could try Space Alert with her, but 1) with only two people, it's just not that much fun and 2) it's quite complicated to start with (even if you follow the manual, it takes a lot of "rounds" until you finally play the real game). Escape is awesome to quickly pick up, play a few games and pack down again. I really think both games deserve to be in all board game players' collections. Also, the only real similarity is that an audio-track "runs" the game. Gameplay and -mechanic wise, they are completely different.

Ah, the first review that genuinely got me to WANT a game. It was so small back then Now it's a grand toybox of game designs that aren't bad, but everyone needs to be on the same page before you play. You definitely need to take a moment to build your temple before you go explorin' because you do NOT want to put too much temple in one go.

Great game, great review! One extra tip, my group had issues hearing when the gong was hit on the soundtrack. Maybe we would've gotten used to it, but instead we found alternate soundtracks on youtube that play "yackety sax" while you're supposed to be running back to the main room. Maybe not very thematic, but it improved playability and was lots of fun, I'd definitely recommend it!

As the saying goes, when the temple closes a door, it also closes a window. And when it closes a window, it closes the toilet lid just to be safe.

Great review! The box for this game never sold it to me as I thought it would be a crummy game based around something like Temple Run but this actually makes it look a hell of a lot of fun! My group is certainly the play faster and lots of laughs type of gamers so I think this would be a nice addition to my collection.

we play the heavy game first, when we're alert and excited. after that, nothing longer than an hour, and nothing that takes obscene amounts of concentration. This way, we end on a good note, but still get the difficult to organize games in. You don't want people glancing at their watches at 10pm, and wondering when this game that they have stopped caring about an hour ago because they are tired is going to end.

+weesh ful I favour opening with a light starter - something short and simple, and ideally something people can drop into - so that you can start before everyone arrives - Fluxx works fairly well, so does Codenames, and I also like using Tsuro as an opener. Then, I agree, you get out the main game - the one that's going to dominate the session. My local board-game club has 8-hour sessions, so you can actually play a couple of 3 hour games and still have time to wind down afterwards, or play one or two 60-90 minutes games and then one major game, which usually happens as a result of someone else having two substantial games they want to play, and you wanting to get in on the second... We also have at least 30 people per session, so it's a lot more spontaneous than if you only have 4-5 people...

Version I played one time had a sand timer, which changes the rules slightly - rather than one continuous period, you have 3 periods, with a couple of (brief) intermissions while people reset their dice and someone remembers to flip the timer...

they did, on their podcast, which you can find on their website. the fact that they reviewed it on the podcast bodes very poorly for it getting coverage in a video, since they save the best games for videos, and talk about the rest via text or audio.

For me, Escape is a game I would buy if it didn't come with an extortionate business model attached (and the strongly negative reports from Kickstarter and the issues with mismatched cardstock, etc which, by all reports, are symptomatic of the company rather than an isolated incident). In other words, if it was made by just about any company other than Queen Games, I'd probably be all over it...

Unreasonable request. First of all, it's not "re"posting if videos have only been published on Vimeo and not KZbin before, and second, uploading them all in one batch would guarantee no views.

The97gtrs I for one would like to applaud your disciplined KZbin subscription curation whereby all of your incoming feed is consumed by SUSD videos.
