I think separately both motorcycles and camping offer a very visceral life experience. but together they create a unique harmony in which one strangely compliments the other. and if the riders are grounded with nature and mindful of higher realms and have a little faith. then I can imagine the experience to be borderline transcendental.

Hurray! A new campaign! I'm always waiting for a new video on both channels! We have your imitators in Russia, they are trying to shoot videos in your style. One of them is a tourist like you on a motorcycle, and the other is on a bike like me. But they are far from their mastery of conveying the atmosphere of a journey into which the whole is immersed! Thank you for your films! I'm waiting for new ones and reviewing old ones!

Larger tarp, need to go down a half meter under the bottom of you bed to keep water from blowing up under when a rain event occurs. Also a pad of bottom blanket is always nice to have. Most of time use bag as a blanket unless it is cold as when you camped. Sometimes it may be better to have tarp setup with the wind if you have the location to close one end to keep water/wind out. Keeps the sway down. The ability to fasten one side of the tarp close to the ground is a real positive. It allows you to get up and still stay dry under the tarp. If you have both sides up everything under gets wet all across floor. Think about it. Carry plenty of para cord it comes in so handy if you have to tie off to rocks or what ever underneathe. Hey, great vid. Still doing the brace and tentative use of my right main hand, carpal tunnel surgery, new full rt knee next week. Want to come to USA and ride Tenere 700 around, be a good time. I'm down a while.

What you did, is like go out into the woods and lay down on a cold rock covering with a blanket! It's not like that to propper use a hammok. You must have an underblanket made out of dune. I sleep out in mid winter in minus 18 C without freezing at all!

Nice vid Rob! I'll echo everyone else (and yourself), you've got to have an underquilt or a sleeping pad. Your sleeping bag gets smushed underneath you and can't provide any insulation, thus why you were so cold. A UQ usually is less fuss than a sleeping pad in a hammock, but obviously a bit more spendy. I'd also add that you need to try and sleep on the diagonal to minimze any curvature of your body while you sleep. You get a lot flatter lie on the diag and avoid becoming a banana. Lastly, I think you're straps may have been a little tight, particularly your foot end. Look to achieve a 30 degree slope on your suspension. There's more tips out there, but hammock camping is a lot of trial and error. Enjoy the process! Cheers!

hey Rob, i love ur content! Thanks for many inspiring moments. I'll start to travel throu europe by motocycle and camping, thx of u. Hope there comes a that i'll meet u, maybe in scandinavia on tour? ;) I think there is a problem with the hammock setup at windy spots. because of the windchill effekt. U can use a sleepingpad inside or a underquilt under ur hammock. I luv hammock camping in the wild. Stay healthy and keep u ur content! U re great man!

Hello from the Eastern US (the Blue Ridge Mountains). I too motorcycle camp with a hammock. For ease of setup, look into the Hennessy Expedition Classic using Snake Skins and the Super Shelter. The bug net on the Hennessy Classic is connected all the way around, you enter the hammock through the bottom. Sounds rather bizarre, but it's very convenient and it keeps fewer bugs from getting inside the netting with you. The Super Shelter provides a sil-nylon water and wind barrier underneath the hammock. It comes with a lightweight open cell phone pad for insulation, or you can use a blanket, a woobie, a down quilt, whatever if the temperature requires it. For a fly, I use a War Bonnet Superfly. It's a huge fly when spread out, or you can pitch it down to the ground and close the doors and be fully enclosed in bad weather, but very compact and lightweight when packed. The Snake Skins (one set for the hammock and one set for the fly) reduce the fly and the hammock into two long sausage shapes. You pull them out, connect them to your tree straps, slide the snake skins up towards the tree end and your camp is set, save guying & staking out your fly. If it's raining you can collapse your hammock bug net and undercover into the Snake Skin and it creates a great deal of room underneath the fly for sitting in a camp chair. If you happen to be setting up or taking down in the rain you can set up the fly first and deploy it, then open up your hammock underneath the cover of the fly. Same for breaking camp, you can collapse your hammock into the snake skins take it down and put it in a dry bag or a pannier under the cover of the fly. Then you take the fly down last. Happy trails!!

As a side sleeper hammock camping got some getting used to. But I love it. You can pack soo light on the bike. Just need the weather to warm up a bit more. It’s back to winter here in vic. And why are you cooking in the dark? Time management around camp, food tastes a lot better when it’s cooked in daylight

A fine, relaxing adventure. Food seems to be a huge part of the experience. 😂 I have to ask - do you have ticks and Lyme Disease there? Where I am the forests are infested with the little buggers. Sit on a log or rock and you’ll soon have them crawling all over you. I’m just finishing up a course of doxycycline because of a tick bite and a big rash. I need to get one of those folding chairs!😊

yep, we've got plenty of ticks, they haven't been proven to carry lhyme disease bacteria yet (according to the NSW health site) however there are still cases of Lhyme disease in aus they do love to give us a plethora of other diseases and are a right pain in the arse both literally and figuratively. glad to hear you're on the mend mate.

Yeah that is cold! Your sleeping bag is rated for that, but that also assumes an insulated sleeping pad. Ever thought about a bag liner? I hear they will add as much as 25 deg F to the bag rating. I just don't know how much of a hassle it would be getting in and out of TWO bags. I am facing a similar dilemma. Let me know your thoughts

The best way is to use an under-quilt which I don’t have. Apparently it’s much, much warmer than sleeping in a tent with a sleeping pad. For extreme cold conditions you can add an over-quilt to cover you completely.
