You are 100% correct, to listen to your intuition.Though it was 35years ago, three climbing buds and I were attempting to winter summit in the chilliwack valleys' cascade mountains " Canadian borderpeak"; but after traversing some sick 5.7slab traverse that was not same as route description, we listened to our intuition and decided to not attempt summit wide crack pitches, in winter crampons. As it turned out, once we had hurriedly descended, and had driven back down to within feet of the chilliwack lake road, our car stalled.Now with the engine no longer running we can hear a loud boom- rumble-baboom, getying louder snd approaching us. And no kidding the reason our route description no longer matched the summit area, was now tumbling down the funneling-plinko gullies toward us.The large(5-storey apartment block sized) sub-summit gendarme-like peak litterally was exploding apart as it came down the several thousand feet of mountainside, toward us in the subaru! I guessed we had about 45 seconds before it rolled right over us. Telling my friends to stay put, but run for their lives if the car wasn't rolling again in 30 seconds. Car restarted, drove only 50feet to get back on the paved roadway, and then only another 80 or 100 feet from there, stopping as the now house sized boulder, continued to calve flakes off itself and litterally came to a rest under(beside) the chipmunk-creek river bridge, now only a very large boulder 40-50foot cicumference, rocking back snd forth like a roadrunner cartoon animation on th very lowest point there .That would have been the end of us but, thanks to listening to our intuition, and the fact that the weird "squeaking, like steel bending" sound up at the summit snowfield, was in fact a teetering part of the former summit of the mountain.Aptley reduced to rubble, perhaps not unlike our invincibility young egos, that were tested that day.The replanted clearcut has grown to a mature size, like the saplings from my first years treeplanting, now shade my retired parents house 30feet and taller.But you can still see the swath cut through the mountainsides forests, where no soil shall soon find a footing, upon the snake mountaisides rasp. Point or moral is you can't believe it untill you see it, but yes be wary around those old rocks!

Thanks so much, another of your great adventures. Appreciate the talk on fear vs bad gut feeling and how experience teaches how to control fear. I fully agree, in climbing whether as trad or sport climbing on bolted routes on rock outdoors or indoor gym climbing I really don’t like falling even when I know I am on a rope and safe. On grades well inside my grade it’s a breeze but when pushing my limit (which is the high 5.10’s and into early 5.11’s but can be an easy grade if it has sketchy protection) I do feel fear. That melting couloir reminded me of my time in the Himalayas when you soon realise that they are giant choss piles glued together by ice.
@andrazegart10 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yup, nothing is more scary than pushing your limits on sketchy protection. 😅 Well the only thing that’s more scary to me is chossy routes and avalanches. Just like you said… our mountains are glued together with ice and snow haha. That’s why everything is falling apart as soon as it gets a bit warmer.

Great Footage and words mate, the rock fall reminded me of the time I played Russian roulette across the Mont Blanc couloir du gouter (most dreadful sound from above). Interesting take on the mental side of the falling. Unfortunately witnessed someone fall directly in front on me not to long ago that didn't end well. Thankfully it hasn't stopped me climbing but certainly impacted confidence in no fall zones and high exposed areas as I'm instantly reminded of the fatality. Stay safe, look forward to the next one.

Another hidden gem video from you, lovely :-). You and Bruno Pisani are my favourite climbing youtubers from Central-Europe :-). However Bruno became a bit cocky nowadays, he is a bit intoxicated by the fame but he is still doing good. You should team up with him sometime, he lives in Italy close to the Slovenian border. A few questions: What is your favourite mountain summit in your country? Have you climbed Jalovec and Jof Di Montasio? (Both are on my list for this summer...That would be great if you could join me to the Jalovec climb) For me it is enough to see your winter adventures, you inspire me...however I myself not the fan of winter hiking and climbing, the wind basically always blows, the weather is chilly and gets dark early. I am eagerly waiting for the spring/summer season when I will also venture out the wilderness :-).

Thank you! I watch Bruno as well. Although it would be cool to do a collab with him, I don’t really like to hike/climb with people I don’t know personally. Off, I couldn’t decide which one is my favourite… Jalovec is for sure the coolest looking, but a bit too crowded in the winter for my taste. I have climbed Jalovec before, but not yet Jof Di Montasio. I’m sorry, but as I already said, I don’t like to hike/climb with people I don’t know personally. I hope you understand! Good luck with your trip, and let me know in the comments how it goes when summer arrives 🙌😊
