Escaping, Goodbye Bahamas: Norman's Cay to Wardrick Wells. Could it get any worse? One thing after another is breaking; we can’t go on like this much longer. We are surrounded by incredible natural beauty and wonderful people but the frustration we feel at the moment is overwhelming. Unfortunately, we're thinking about quitting the Bahamas and escaping back to Florida. We're giving it serious consideration. But first we've decided to continue on from Norman's Cay to Wardrick Wells. Warderick Wells will be our first stop in the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park.
Pulling up the anchor by hand is doable in a pinch but it's not a long-term fix. We're going to have to figure out a more permanent solution or we have to head back to Florida.
Meanwhile, the Bahamas are still as gorgeous as they were the day we got here six months ago. Norman's Cay has a rich drug smuggling past and some of the evidence is still visible today, we'll take a look at that history. We also tour Wardrick Wells in the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park. The park is a nature preserve that is (mostly) free from significant human impact. We think the journey of Norman's Cay to Wardrick Wells will be memorable.

You’re in the Bahamas. Our last cruise there, we had to start our diesel by jumping the solenoid with a hammer for three months. We had to repair the fuel tank with epoxy two different times, our rollerfurling jammed, and our fresh water system developed a leak we couldn’t find that made us have to refill our water tanks every five days. And, my wife got an infected eye. Still the best time we ever had in our lives!

Haha 😂 I feel your pain. Neither of our macerator pumps functioned properly, one leaked in the engine room, (yuk) both had to be replaced. The aft shower sump pump stopped working and was replaced. My port side starter battery died so we replaced both. The forward vacuflush head leaks air (still) and recharges itself every five minutes. The generator sprung a diesel leak that I temporarily addressed with caulk (yes, it’s holding). Our dingy outboard stopped working and needed to be replaced. Our windlass motor brushes are toast (I filed them flat again and it is working, for now. And… I jammed the middle finger on my right hand three weeks ago playing with the dog and it still hurts. But yes, I’m in the Bahamas and we have had a fantastic six months and have already started planning for when we come back 👍 And on a serious note, thanks for watching and I hope your wife’s eye got better 😀

The ups and downs are very understandable. I think the only cruisers who never have a bad day are those that are marina-queens….never cruising at all. I am impressed with how both of you have jumped into this life-you’re doing it!
