Thank you so much for airing this. I have come to know Mike over the years as he helped me when I reached out during my my own lifelong involvement and exit from the church in 2013/14. (My mother worked with Hubbard mid 1950's & I was born into the cult in 1963). I can truly say Mike is a man among men. The humongous risk to his life, liberty and freedom by escaping Scientology, exposing their abuses and helping others to do the same cannot be quantified in words. His resolve to keep on going, keep on supporting others who are finding their way out and keep on exposing the insanity and abuses of Scientology is beyond admirable. Mike has always been there for me when I've needed him - supportive, interested, empathetic and always willing to help. Last year he came to my rescue once again when I reached out to him urgently needing help with a dire family situation. There was NO hesitation from Mike and because of his HUGE support (as well as many folks who are regulars on Mike's blog), we were able to pull off the virtually impossible. I am truly grateful and indebted to everyone who came to my aid and assistance thanks to Mike and his army of supporters. (If you happen to read this, Mike, - or anyone else who was involved in helping me at the time, I am so sorry for being "off the radar" for a while - I promise to send you all an update very soon - I have not forgotten). I am so glad Mike has finally written his book which I cannot wait to read.

There are so many connections between a religion and a cult. I believe, in general, people want to believe …… in something, someone greater than themselves . It becomes a debate about philosophies and the ways and means to achieve peace of mind . That is what makes religion so personally and privately sacred . We cannot deny the right of religious faith . But, in the long run , it seems we need to approach those beliefs with caution and protect ourselves from exploitation .

Yes indeed. I think what plaques whistle blowers, especially when we're dealing cults, which essentially indoctrinate and brainwash it's members is a kind of shame, if even subconscious, both for exposing something that's part of their life and identity, and for being part the fraud in the first place. It's complicated because you see yourself as part victim and part perpetrator, which is why some people never speak out. Thankfully, Mike Rinder has, and I can hardly imagine anyone more articulate! At the time, I was already secretly arranging my imminent departure for my own reasons, and in our conversations, I really sensed his stress level in his body language and when our eyes met. It was excruciating to be unable to converse freely with him in our last private meeting. He probably wouldn't remember me, but I'd love to be able to talk with him again, now all these years later. They tried to introduce my daughter to scientology. She was at an eye appointment and complained of headaches. The opthamologist introduced her to Dianetics and how she could overcome stress that caused her headaches. She brought the book Dianetics home, which was in his waiting room for patients. He told her to read it. She was 15 years old. I was furious. I explained cults to her. She received something in the mail. I called the opthalmologist and told him I wanted her off their mailing list. He asked why I didn't like sci. I told him it was none of his business. He said I would need to get in touch (he gave me a phone number) with someone to get her off the mailing list. I refused him and said, no, you do it. You got it started. I then berated him for applying scientology to his professional licence,. and that he did not have the qualifications to diagnose psychosomatic illness under an Opthalmology license. I told him the next thing for me would be to complain to the board of Opthalmology. It seemed that this did the trick. Never heard from them again. This was in Moberly, Missouri in 1992. I don't know if he still practices Opthalmology or not. I don't remember his name.

He may have lost at that time he made a decision, but as a fellow escapee, I can assure you he sees it more of a gain than a loss. Yes, he "lost" his children - but the church ensured they weren't ever really HIS children from the time of their birth - they belonged to the church. I understand how he feels about leaving them though - the pain cannot be underestimated. I lost my sister and many, many lifelong friends. But the silver lining is that as a result of leaving, he has also gained so much - his freedom, a beautiful new family, his human rights & dignity restored, no more abuse and brainwashing - and the opportunity to exercise his 1st amendment rights. Not only that, but he also gets to help others in their escape from the abusive cult too (he was VERY instrumental in my journey out - and I live on the other side of the world - so his influence is widespread).

He showed me his first check, which was for $8,000, and promptly signed it over to the Scientologists. I used to get calls from their "Celebrity Center," with attractive girls luring me down to the "org." When he split with that gang, they harassed him for years, constantly writing libels about him. I worked with a nurse recently who worked at Hemet hospital and reported that MANY sea org members were brought to the ER with multiple injuries…basically beaten to a pulp. They ALWAYS had someone else with them and the story was always the same…the patient had “tripped “ but weirdly the injuries NEVER matched a trip and fall!!!

For Benjamin’s mother and sister, their estranged husband and father had crossed the line. Along with Mike Rinder’s brother and several long-term family friends and former associates of Rinder, they set out to Clearwater to have words with him. Rinder’s response was to violently assault Cathy. He seized the diminutive, 5′ 3″ woman in a vice grip that gouged her right arm, wrenched her shoulder, dislocated her collarbone and fractured another bone. The resulting nerve damage and mobility loss in Cathy’s right arm impaired her for life.
@denysecoop73562 жыл бұрын
@@korvgubben274 😂🤣 Your BS would’ve probably worked in the past. She has mobility loss and nerve damage? Give me a break. DV should be prosecuted 100% of the time, and the perpetrators should be jailed, however the same thing should happen to the people who lie and try to destroy the lives of the innocent. That would be Rinder’s ex-wife, his daughter, and the ‘church’ of Scientology. I happened to watch the documentary that was being made when Mike Rinder was verbally assaulted by his ex-wife, his son and members of Scientology. John Sweeney, from the BBC recorded the whole thing. And the police were called and saw the red spot on her arm, because they wouldn’t move to let them leave, so she got jostled around, not “assaulted.” The police didn’t believe the ex-wife, or any of the Scientologists… and she only had a red spot on her arm. You people are delusional. Who would want to join your organization, knowing you have to pay to get to different levels of info, and then find out we were thrown into volcanoes by an alien, anyway? And if you want to leave, you get harassment, and your own family disconnects from you… no thanks!

This interview was so very interesting. At ~min 18:40, Megyn and Mike were discussing controlling emotions. I remember when TC was on Inside the Actors Studio and was asked about his process for pulling emotion into a scene. TC completely rejected pulling anything from real life or his past and said he was equipped to use his imagination to fulfill what emotion was warranted in a scene. While I get that could happen sometimes, it astounded me that anyone couldn't/wouldn't pull from personal experience. Anyway, that interview with James Lipton was a long time ago, yet when Megyn and Mike discussed "controlling emotions," it put me right back at that interview. Very interesting and I can see how that sort of control would be attractive to certain types of people.
