They asked him a question and he gave a Ted talk. Impressive. A good representative of the UK.

Sam is an incredible ambassador for the cause because he's speaking of a deeply ingrained issue which runs through the British public, and it does so thanks to our MEDIA who like to paint a picture that we are disliked. The 'them vs us' is a narrative that is hugely beneficial for them (British media/government) because it allows them to segregate us so they can peddle their agendas on to us. They do it in such a way and disguise it as 'patriotism'. That way we accept that anyone else is against us/not worth our effort, and this extends to the Eurovision, which is why there's a real disconnect with the UK and the ESC. The Brits now constantly berate anything representing the UK and see the contest as a cheesy sham. Also the ingrained belief that we're hated has been peddled by the Media hasn't been tackled by the BBC. If anything, they've let that narrative take over because it means they don't have to accept the responsibility of sending dire music year after year. They can let the above excuse take the blame. Sam has now singlehandedly exposed this, and in doing so made people realise that the BBC were actually at fault all along because they've been hugely lazy whej it comes to selecting our songs. They haven't sent anything of any quality, relevance or worthiness of winning. I mean, they even sent a song created by a man who writes 'jingles' for adverts one year!. Not just that, the British artists who have represented us in the past haven't fully immersed themselves with the cause of changing people's perceptions like Sam has. He's worked so damn hard to do this and has worked tirelessly, even going as far as giving up alcohol whilst he was in the Eurovision bubble. Most of the previous UK artists just showed up, were present, performed and just wanted to party, as witnessed last year. They didn't take the reigns the way Sam has. They didn't do exhausting non stop interviews right across the world, or pop on the a random high street in another country and start busking. Sam really worked hard to build up a relationship with the worldwide public. I hope this shows the BBC up for being so lazy in the past 20 years and makes them get their arse in gear. If we're going to be a part of something year after year, more effort needs to be made by our broadcaster. Sam has been admirably unravelling the damage that the BBC and our press have done over the years.

That is a good comment. Eurovision is not the most toxic enviroment though. Sometimes you see a certain anti-UK bias, like for example when England lost the Euro final despite having done a good tournament, so it is kind of there, but we also have to own up to the things British peolple don't do so well, like to put a lazy example, living in other countries without learning the language and stuff like that. Every country will have its flaws, because we are all human, but we can make a difference in the perception other can have, just like Sam Ryder has done this year. Even if he doesn't represent all Brits, he represents some of their best vaules.

@@tynan11 It's okay to be wrong, I think its our role in the UK now to mend any hostile feelings with our European Neighbours.
