jerry millett No problem. Good choice. The 5 is a little bit too short and stubby otherwise if it was a length of the six I'd go with the esee 5. Also, the primary edge is too obtuse on the 5 when compared.

Just a quick comment to help anyone who doesn't know...Kydex, ABS, Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Grivory, call it what you will. All plastic. Kydex isn't any more special than any injection molded plastic. It's mostly made of PVC, like water and drain pipes. So don't sweat it if you don't know exactly what kind of sheath you have, they're all plastic. Just have different melting points. If you don't expose your sheath to 400 plus degrees, the cheap Mora sheaths are just as durable as the custom made Kydex. Also, this is a fantastic vid of two amazing knife companies! Great job comparing the two!

I'm trying to decide between Tops Condor Alert & Esee Junglas. I like the blade shape of the Junglas more than the Condor Alert, but the Junglas blade is thinner, and Tops always sends their knives with sh*t sheaths. Which one would you choose?
@pinkbrisingr789 жыл бұрын
Sir, that's a tough one. ESEE & TOPS are so alike in many ways. I wouldn't care about the sheath as much as how good they felt in my hand, u know, the ergos. Have u held them before??
@pinkbrisingr789 жыл бұрын
What do u plan to use them for would matter as well. Think about that bc each blade has different grind.

JOEY OWEN AlphaBladeReviews I've held a friend's Tops Armageddon so yeah. I want a knife that can tackle any backyard task without failing.
@pinkbrisingr789 жыл бұрын
+PerceptionVsReality I would pick the least expensive one as they both are great blades. I like the TOPS better overall, but I like ESEE sheath better. I think ESEE would be better slicer, bc full flat grind, but TOPS would be a better beater bc thicker spine and saber grind makes it stronger by a small margin. I have held both of them and I have medium to large size hands and I feel like the ESEE handle is a little long. you cannot go wrong with either one!! The TOPS looks more tactical to me if that matters?

I'm trying to decide between a TOPS HOG 4.5 and a becker bk16. They have similar if not identical steels but the HOG is more expensive, is this due to better heat treat or something? Whicb would you recomend for an all rounder kind of knife between the two?
@pinkbrisingr789 жыл бұрын
TOPS HOG is nicer overall & better handle scales. BK16 is awesome for the money, BUT, ya gonna have to either buy new handle scales for it or wrap it with Wilson tennis wrap or similar bc the BK16 handles are slick, yet comfortable.

I enjoyed watching this video comparing some of my favourite knives. I've been a fan of both ESEE and TOPS knives for quite awhile and it's easy to see why when watching this review. I confess that I'm also a lover of the Becker BK Series of knives. They lack the aesthetics of the TOPS and ESEE models and, I suppose, can be regarded as more utilitarian but I like them a lot. TOPS knives are nothing less than fascinating given all the wild and woolly designs they come up with. Often I find myself poring over all the various models on display. This is a terrific video, joey owen, and gave me a lot of pleasure.

@lintakeuchi4299 жыл бұрын
Teachering so.... you're saying that ESEE knives are more attractive than Becker? Why? Or rather, what specifically do you find ESEE has over Becker, aesthetically speaking?
@Teachering9 жыл бұрын
Lin Takeuchi You ask a difficult question, Lin Takeuchi. As I suggest in my earlier comment I have a great liking for the Becker series of knives. I like them for several reasons mostly to do with their simplicity of design and functionality. As to the question of aesthetics it is not easy to say why one is necessarily more attractive than the other. The question hinges on personal taste. Becker knives are made of 1095 carbon steel, black powder coated, and provided with an inexpensive yet comfortable grivory handle. ESEE knives are also made of 1095 carbon steel, have been fitted with the more attractive and expensive micarta scales, and have been powder coated with a better quality material. ESEE also offers a variety of attractive colour combinations for both the blade and scales; something Becker does not. Becker is a knife with a black powder coating and a black plastic handle. Yet, in spite of all the differences I have just laid out if, for example, I were asked to make a choice between a Becker BK2 and an ESEE 5 model I would choose the Becker over the ESEE. I have reached the conclusion that even with the fairly wide margin in cost Becker is in many ways the better knife and a handsome blade.

Nice comparison! I dont own any Esee knives but I plan on getting a few. My two favorite knives are my TOPS knives. An Intercepter with tanto point and my Condor Alert. I use them both a lot and they are amazing. Even though my Condor Alert is a large knife I have practiced enough with it I can do some finer tasks. One came with a kydex sheath and the other a nylon sheath. I have since then replaced the nylon sheath with my DIY PVC sheath and it turned out well. Hope to see more...

+JOEY AlphaBladeReviews with all due respect sir...BS. i have washed mine as well and there is no way canvas micarta will ever come up that new looking again, especially the streaky patterning along the edges. not only that, there isn't a single mark on the blades. with use that powder coat comes off, yours are spotless. face it, you are an... 'all the gear and no idea' type. a real outdoors man knows he doesn't need anywhere that many knives anyway. i have three knives and they have served me well for years, an esee 4 for donkey work, a scandi grind bushcrafter and a small saw. never needed anymore than that. you are a collector, which is fine. nothing wrong with that, but you suggest that you actually use those knives, and that you find certain ones better for given purposes. i merely pointed out that they had never been used, for any purpose. you know it i know it, anyone else reading this who owns such knives also knows it. you can fool some of the people some of the time but...da da da.

+Travis P (r3dd09) Hi Travis, not meaning to interrupt, but just FYI. The TOPS doesn't seem to rust as quickly as the ESEE knives do, here in LA! I love both companies but the TOPS BOB compared to ESEE4 is much more stout with better ergos, IMHO. The 4 doesn't compete from all I have done. The ESEE Laser strike seems to be in VERY comparable range to the BOB, except for the LaserStrike being spear point. Comes down to blade geometry & grind to me. With that in mind & from a lot of use, the BOB wins all around, except in the weight category! Hope this helps, apologies if I offended you, I mean no harm but can see all comments on my bids so I wanted to help. Peace be with you.

The definition of insanity is. Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. (As a mechanic, I have to say we would look at the guy with 15 ratchets. As just a little touched in the brain.) The knives today are far beyond what was available 40 years ago. People need to do homework. Pick one. Never look back. And then years down the line. Do a video and tell us a story. I can read specs from the manufacturer. If you are so damn picky a small thing ruins the deal. That shit sounds like 1st world problems then. And the last thing you should attempt. Is wilderness survival. Another add brought to you by a KZbin master. Think for yourself, the first step in survival
