Service providers cannot force their will. Like toll roads, there must always be the option of alternative routes for those who do not want to pay "tolls". When self-sufficient, by right under self-sovereignty, we can cut ALL services including water, sewerage, refuge removal AND property tax should service providers become dysfunctional and hostile. We know our rights as consumers, tax payers and property owners and will not hesitate to execute these should our lives and livelihood be threatened. What a SHAME to even have to have an APP to tell people when they're going to cut us off from a system we built with our taxes! Offgrid to me implies getting off apps and smart everything that puts a third party in position to control my life! We have the means to do it now, even with peer to peer money. Yip, the new APPartheid is here....! Shape up or be cut off you service providers, including the government. You serve the people not the other way round!!

It's a vicious circle. Eskom deprive us of power for 2 to 4 hours, then we (inverter owners without solar) grab that same amount of power back that Eskom has just saved! So, in essence, they borrow that power from us and have to pay it back immediately (with interest, because there are some losses when recharging systems), so there has been no power saving in reality. The only saving that Eskom has made is from those who do not have, or cannot afford inverters or who have recharged using solar. Also, if Eskom expects inverter users to delay the recharging of their batteries, it would mean that users would either need to install a delay relay/timer, or would have to manually switch inverter off and manually switch the changeover switch to utility after each loadshedding, one then after an hour or so, go back and switch everything over again! That's not going to happen, I'm sure. This whole situation is way more complex than Eskom think it is and, as so many have pointed out, its all Eskom's doing. They must sort it out (but I'm sure they won't)

Typical batteries charge at the rate of a kettle. Between 1 and 2 kW for a 5kWh to 10kWh battery. Battery charging can NOT cause a massive surge in power draw more than the rated power breaker of the house, for which the entire distribution system should and is designed for. A typical are switched off could be anywhere from 1MVA to 10 MVA. THIS IS NEGLIGIBLE ON THE SCALE OF SUBS ETC. The problem is with poorly maintained and old electrical infra.

The ANC stooges at Eskom might not understand this, but I depend on my inverter for work. My work cannot be at the mercy of their incompetence. I wouldn't need it if their service was reliable. Delaying the recharging would mean I need to unplug it several times a day - the switchover is automatic, which is the point of getting an inverter system. If Eskom thinks this is a reasonable request it's no wonder we have the levels of LS we have. Inverters and alternative power simply prove that a distributed generation and storage is the only viable option of South Africans - centralization has failed.

I tried every spot to get reception, went to sit at the parking in a car, ti no success. They had to unfortunately adjourn the meeting without the host. That's the present-hour reality for the public sector as well. Therefore for me the smooth transition from loadshedding to an alternative power supply is critical.

You don't charge an inverter. You charge the batteries. That's why charge times are set on hybrid systems. Then it chargers only certain times from the grid and only charge the batteries to a percentage set on the invert, just enough until solar panels can take over to charge. Clearly they do not know how a solar system works.

Really? Terminology is your criticism of all this? "Inverter" has become the common term when referring to large UPS systems. By using this term, they are keeping us mere mortals on the same page while discussing a super technical topic. UPS - a box under your desk Inverter - A box on wheels with an inverter sitting on top. Solar - Panels on your roof charging an inverter (see above) Off-grid - I'm super rich, but can't emigrate.

🤣Not everyone gets loadshedding at the same time do you live in Cape Town there is literally 3 areas that go off the exact same time not to mention those areas still take a whole hour to come back on you clearly don't know what your talking about!😑

How much delay? Power outages have been on the go since 2006, if not earlier. How much longer does Eskom expect South Africans, irrespective of race, gender or creed to be raped by them?

We need to work, not one of the public can ride on public's back like ministers or cabinet members. Maybe if all ministers and cabinet members start paying for electricity and have loadshedding our countries loadshedding issue would not exist. Stop giving advice if you are not suffering with the rest of our South Africans.

I pay availability charges each month when it's not available half the time. So Eskom can kiss my ass until they stop charging me availibility charges. While they are charging me for permanent availability, I do whatever I want to the system whenever I want.

Do not switch off at all! So many businesses have gone under so why is the supply not enough for the remaining people? Why did Biden say South Africa cannot have power? Is that the reason we are switched off? Loadshedding started nearly 2 decades ago, so the fact that we are still switched off tells us that it is deliberate!

So how was this Biden's instructions if it's been two decades like you say. The oke can't even walk from the loo to the kitchen by himself. Ffs the ANC admitted during Thabo Mbekis time that they were warned and didn't act that time. Then the eating began. You need to go study it, not come here with stupid conspiracy bs

The problem with Eskom is that its managed by a 3rd world government that does not understand 1st world business, science and technology so to be able to successfully manage SOE s . This is why it's essential that the private sector should form partnerships with government to manage the power utility so to restore it back to acceptable operational standards enabling the people to enjoy an acceptable standard of living.

Dump ESKOM and get a system that frees you completely from this utility that has so many problems. Let ESKOM concentrate on supplying industry to boost the economy and pick the country up out of the morass this incompetent government has caused.

Eskom request has technical merit, although it is unfair for customers. Based on designed load, the network tends to have an increased demand during power restoration after 4hr slot of loadshedding due to coldload pickup, resulting in system trips. Especially when restoration coincide with afternoon peak demand (geysers, stoves etc). Increased battery based systems add up to the household load when they have to charge at the same time when power is restored. Thus, making additional load even at low outage durations (2hrs). This will result in extended outages, as the utility will have to attend to these trips and hope some customers has switched off their heavy load appliances enough for system to hold. Yes, it is Eskom issue, but we are affected like it or not. BTW im not Eskom employee, but I'm in electrical engineering field..😅

Nonsense, charging a battery system with a relatively commonly used inverter in South Africa will trigger a power draw of 2kw from the grid. Most household kettles draw 2kw to 3kw. So please explain to me the difference between people switching on appliances such as kettles to boil water, especially in winter when loadshedding ends and inverter systems kicking in. Not even accounting for other appliances turning on, such as geysers/dishwashers/ electric ovens.

There's a better solution that does not shortchange the people, INNOVATE ESKOM, STOP LOADSHEDDING, put the public before politics and ego and call in former ESKOM CEOs Brian Molefi and Matshele Koko to assist. There was no loadshedding during those CEOs terms so clearly they know what needs to be done.

Treasury has issued a cost saving directive that the government departments have to comply to, virtual meetings were sited as one of the cost-saving mechanisms,. The question is how are theze going to be effective if, for example, you experience loadshedding in the middle of a meeting and are of the understanding that you must delay switching to an inverter? I'm puzzled.

The load forecast will see it as an additional load - a bit like asking, "How many fingers am I holding behind my back?" You guess right and I change it😂A tough one. They can limit the controller charger current to a maximum that will recharge over a 4 hour period and fit it into SANS 1042.

Can Someone explain to me why is it there's less units on the meter after load shedding than the exact units when load shedding starts? please. IOL reported on this and I've been noticing it for quite sometime as well, especially after these new Sienna meters had been replaced with the massive old ones not too long ago. Maybe there's an expert out there.
