I remember farming stones in the imperial city abd running into another player from Daggerfall (i was Ebonheart) and nearly killed me, i managed to turn invisible and hide from him running into the sewars only to realise i am no where near my alliances base, having to stealth through the sewars from enemy npcs aswell as other players while taking opportunistic kills to gain more stones Took me 3 hrs to get to by base (due to being spotted and waiting for other players to move) was definitely an experience that i loved

Yeah, that's the point. The higher the risk, the higher the reward. Usually, when you have a plentiful amount of Stones and want to go back, there is always one duchebag waiting at the sewers entrance that have to gank you and ruin your work. This is pathetic. It is better to use safe return runestones. The other way is being a vampire. Well, it's not 100% safe way, but it rises the chance that you will farm successfully Telvar Stones and will be able to return stealthy to your base. I use crouching all the time when outside at the districts and just try to be like a ghost. Sneak, farm quietly, go back to base and deposit to bank, go farm more and repeat the process. But this method has one disadvantage: it takes a lot of time, because safe=slow. Low risk, low reward. You can kill mobs and plundering chests, but there is always a chance that someone will spot you and kick your ass, leeching your Stones. Usually I play solo, because running in groups may be safer, but you will get ridiculously low amount of Stones, even from killing bosses. I think it depends on damage delivered to mob - if you are not DPS and you are in a group, you will get like 10-14 Telvar Stones from boss... So it is not worth it.

There is, you need to use runestones of safe return to the base. You can buy them for 10k Alliance Points each from one of the merchants at the sewers' base or drop them from the chests with spawning-mobs-portal.
